Lewis and wlad sat atop the division for the same amount of time roughly in this decade.

Lewis from 00-04. Wlad from 05-09.

I rate lewis's run above wlad's.

 

I respect your opinion generally, but comparing their reigns as champion is still only half the picture. Lewis was 6-1 between the start of 2000 and his retirement. Wlad went 22-2 between 00-09. I'm not disputing that Lewis had some great wins during the 00s, nor do I rank Wlad above Lewis in terms of greatness or head to head ability, but I don't think Lewis' wins in the early part of the decade were quite enough to have him ranked above Wlad as the top heavyweight of the 00s. It comes down to point of view of course

 

Well I think lewis has the best resume in this decade within the division.

He also beat everyone he fought quite clearly without dispute.

His championship reign was universally regarded as the only legitimate claim for these 4 years also.

He stopped 3 past present or future premiere heavyweights including his immediate successor.

Wlad was the top hw from 06 but didn't gain universal recognition until 09.

It is, as you say, a matter of viewpoint. I prefer lewis's work in the decade. It's a bit like comparing tyson and holmes for the best hw of the 80's.

 

I think Lewis's win over Wlad's brother should edge Lewis over Wlad imo.

I cant ranked this decade, we are only 2 years in. You dont know what would happen in 7 years time.

 

He had some pretty significant wins in the 60's. He belongs in the top 5 for that decade without a doubt.

I think liston over ingo for the 50's is not a choice that I could ever agree with.

 

If we are talking about skills then Ellis was head and shoulders above Terrell. In terms of accomplishments for the decade in question, however, they probably both belong on the list but neither guy can possibly take the place of Ali, Frazier, Liston or Patteson so a tough choice had to be made.

 

I'd agree it should be between them 2.

Hard to decide who has the better wins and performances.

 

I thought the same thing because Holy had most of his success at CW that decade. Then I thought about it and I compared their best wins from the decade in question. No comparison.

 

Holy's place in the 80's is secure.

For all intents and purposes regarding the 50's, they might as well have done.

 

I think Ring used what Liston did in the 60's to get Liston that 2nd place ranking imo. Or at the very least weight in to that.


I still am not so sure about Patterson under Ingo, but I guess if both retire after the events of 1959, I would consider Ingo over Patterson, and perhaps Ingo would have a strong arugement into the top 15.
