yes I feel you on that, that's how I felt orignally too. But when I looked at it again last night, I was just like, "Come on Khan really?atsch You're gonna look the ref in the eyes when he's breaking you up and saying to stop and you're going to punch Lamont off guard on purpose" :-( I really wish it didn't happen, but what can you do
Did anybody notice the way Petersons trainer pushes Lamont's head back into the post? You can tell it was out of fustration, but damn let your fighter recover don't add to it. By the way I agree with Samski
Can it, newbie. How about pivoting out of it? Or should we believe that blatantly shoving your opponent across the ring is the only mechanism by which a fighter can extricate himself from a leaning opponent?? atsch
The problem was not the ref. It is ALL the other refs who are the problem. Thats what I want from a ref...warn...warn...POINT!! I told you!
The thing is though, Lamont didn't keep coming in with his head low. If they dock a point from Maidana for nothing then let Khan get away with an intentional but in the next round how can Khan complain about get a ref in another fight. Especially when the ref gave him a KD for pushing someone to the ground with his elbow?
NO. Im just saying Peterson and Khan were both doing illegal stuff but only Khan was being punished for it.
My thoughts exactly. I didnt relaize at the fight, but when I watched in on HBO Sunday monring, Khan CLEARLY looks at the ref walking towards them to break up the hold and khan sucker punches him. Going back to Floyd fight, Floyd just caught Ortiz slipping as they were back in action (night not have been the most honrable move but he was completely legal in those 2 shots) Khan, was holding Peterson, thats whne the ref came to break it up, Khan looks at ref in his face and punches Peterson. And no I am not biased, was I rooting for the loal fighter of course, but I had a lot or respect as a fighter and person for Khan before this fight (I willl pst a thread later on my thoughts of how he played hisself) At the end of the day, Khan, while putting up a pretty good fight, proved that he has no defense and can not bang close on the inside. He put Lamont in a headlock at least 10 times. If the show were on the foot, everybody would have no problem with the call. He folded under pressure and lost his belts. It looks like he wll have his chance in the rematch to avenge his lost, so we'll see can adjust next time. Until then .... "And NEW....!"
at the end of the day, its one point. ONE POINT. khan has only himself to blame. he totally underestimated peterson, and when it turned into a much harder, tougher fight than amir expected, he folded under the pressure. and rather than admit that, golden boy and amir khan are now looking to blame the referee and the judges rather than looking at themselfs.
This. Khan was pushing off and holding Peterson's head down the entire match and so I think he deserved the points being taken off, BUT not for the reason stated. It should have been one for the pushing and one for the holding down of the head, both done b/c Amir has NO INSIDE GAME. I'll have to rewatch the fight since I thought that Khan still won it, even with the two points deducted.
The ref was pretty much talking to Khan the entire fight. "Punch out Khan," "Stop holding Khan," "Stop pushing Khan" etc. That's not good refereeing.
Fair enough. I'm not convinced it was bias as much as incompetence though. The guy was in horrible position the entire fight, plus he called a bad knockdown on Peterson.
