Psshh. Ahahahahaa. He was more wrestler than boxer. The only reason he was beating everybody was because he was bigger and stronger than his opponents. He's beating up on teeny tiny guys the whole time. Bob Fitzsimmons an ancient middleweight, Tommy Burns all of five foot seven he wins the title off of. Jack O'Brien, the light heavy champion who's got some of the silliest looking footage I've ever seen. Stanley Ketchel another middleweight champ. Jim Jeffries who'd been retired for years and had to lose a hundred pounds for their bout. Then he finally meets Willard, a pug who was bigger than he was and get's taken to the cleaners. Johnson was a joke. Look at this ****. It looks like they're slow dancing! This content is protected This content is protected
Stupidest post ever. Johnson wasn't even that big himself. Jeffries should have fought him when he as active instead of running away in fear to become a farmer. By most accounts Johnson gave up against Willard in a deal to be granted entry back into the country. Plus he was old and way past his best. Prime Johnson gives him a trouncing. Other guys he beat are ranked as some of the hardest hitters in history - Langford , Fitzsimmons. Im not a huge fan myself , but if you appreciate the sport you have to appreciate pioneers like Johnson. He paved the way for what the sport would eventually become.
Jeffires was doing all the holding in that fight. Johnson struck like a rattlesnake. Beat him to the punch round after round. It was a savage beat down.. The video is right there in front of you and you still don't understand what you're watching.
Fitzsimmons was a 44 year old middleweight, and Langford was 5 foot 7. I'm sure they hit very hard for their size, but there is no way that they were two of the hardest hitters in heavyweight history. I don't have to do nothin' but stay black and die. I'm not a fan of any of those old codgers. The first time boxing looks good to me like what we have now is in the 20s with Mickey Walker, Benny Leonard, and Tony Canzoneri. By then the rules had grown closer to modern standards and techique had laid more emphasis on combinations and jabbing, with less holding.
Its not easy to like what you can't understand. Joe Louis who was every bit as modern as guys are today was put through the wringer by light heavy Billy Conn and completely dismantled by another LHW Charles. The guy who just occupied the HW championship for 10 years was a wrestler/grappler minus the skill and craft of Johnson.
I don't like Wlad at all. I've said that many times. Wlad is a boring clincher, but he didn't routinely use illegal blows. His fans are not really sweet science hipsters either.
I like Joe Louis. I just don't like Jack Johnson. I'm not a fan of Klitschko after Manny Steward turned him into an octopus either. He should have been penalized and disqualified for holding several times over the years, as I said earlier.
You do if you want to avoid civil unrest. Rickard was providing a show to the people. A show is what they got.
Yeah he did.. Elbows , head butts and double handed fist pumps are illegal blows. So is swinging guys around in a circle by their neck and putting pressure onto spinal cords. Wlad is 100x worse than Ward. http://b78b.http.cdn.softlayer.net/00B78B/thesweetscience/images/Fury-Klitschko-a3011.jpg
wlad did clinch a lot same as ward. one fight wlad got a lot of heat for, for clinching was the povetkin fight i would actually defend a lot of wlads clinching in that fight because povetkin was constantly coming in low like a billy goat with his head which is dirty and illegal, wlad put him in a lot of head locks kovalev did the same thing to ward, if you rush in low with your head you can't complain about head locks
Are they hipsters for liking these fighters (as suggested by the original preposition) or not hipsters as suggested in this post?
Coming forward with your head down getting low under punches isn't illegal. Its called defence. It they went any lower its because of this http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2011/06/30/article-2010040-0CCE213000000578-927_634x422.jpg http://www.boxnews.com.ua/photos/1185/Wladimir-Klitschko-Brewster95.jpg This is not rushing in illegally and that how Povetkin approached the whole fight http://cdn3.vox-cdn.com/imported_assets/2167547/blanket.gif
the examples you showed was wlad punishing people for coming in low which i agree with the povetkin example shows wlad trying to throw punches and povetkin ducking to almost waist height and going for a spear tackle by the looks of it
They are low because Wlads body is all over their backs.. Thats not boxing. Povetkin was boxing. Coming in low against a bigger man is called defence Maybe some day you will understand. http://www.yapfiles.ru/files/708906/Wladimir_Klitschko_vs_Alexander_Povetkin_3.gif
