He had been beating the snot out of Marvin Hart before doing a Golotta.

    Inevitably this generated media interest.

Yep. The tools of assessing boxers before there are a lot of footage or reliable records are very different; eyewitness accounts and very sparing footage have to be used a lot more. The tools of the trade differ with differing time periods: this is the case in boxing history, as with all branches of history.

That's why I like to separate rankings of boxers from say before Dempsey (or sometimes Louis, depending on how sceptical I feel) from those after.

Good pick. Then again, I think that Coopman managed to be even less impressive.

But still nothing done at HW. And not surprisingly, the fight went according to the lines of the best HW beating up the best MW.

Yeah, saw that (see my above post).

Well, about as much "outrage" as many of the names thrown about here, who also were European champions in several cases, and in other cases had beaten several top ranked contenders.

There has been a couple named that were perhaps worse, but others that were better. Conn's name certainly doesn't belong on the list, though.

Cooney would hand Ray Austin his ****ing ass.
    One word describes Ray Austin....GARBAGE.

During the Solis fight, the commentators were mocking Austin.

Commenator 1: "Ray Austin believes he has the best jab since Larry Holmes"

Commentator 2: "Oh Yeah, and who told him that? his family?"

I think that the few fighters who genuinely deserve to be listed in this thread, are so lacking any world class credentials, that any sort of win over a top teir heavyweight would put clear water between yourself and them.

Still, he lost something like 8 of his previous 10 or 11 going into the Johnson bout. That's just ludicrous.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. Depending to a degree of course on how close that win was to the actual title challenge.

I think ray austin and rademacher could be the worst two in history.

hang on, didn't jeffries fight some guy with a ridiculous record? not sure if it was sanctioned though.
