Why these idiots need to make things complicated. Let's be real, they are just salty their hero is getting exposed like this. Ward snatched dude's soul and he won't ever be the same again.
What's with the sad country music? In response to the OP I do believe fighters can take another's soul, for example Froch took Groves soul and GGG would have taken Canelo's if he had one. In regards to SK it was a case of the bottle taking it, not Ward.
Love this thread. Souls exist. : ) It's not necessarily a sum of the factors (of a 1st loss) such as people have mentioned thus far: Punch resistance reducing, confidence dipping etc etc The true 'Soul Taking' happens when a boxers mindset is completely and irrevocably changed and that act is obvious to everyone. The true soul removal is marked by a sort of total inability to compute the situation. Doesn't necessarily occur due to a clean KO since the loser doesn't remember it so clearly. The best recent examples I can think of are: Khan V Prescott Rnd 1 Froch V Bute Rnd 4 (one before stoppage when he stumbles back to corner via the rope) Maidana V Broner, the 1st knockdown and 'dance' ha ha Older ones may be: Liston Vs Clay Rnd 1/2 Foreman V Frazier 1, although it can be argued Joe did great, even ATG work afterwards, I think Big Georges uppercut and barking over a sunken Frazier was a bit of a soul stealer. Perhaps Tyson V Spinks happened before the 1st round! Any other examples of a pre-fight soul removal?????
Man this term is been used since forever in boxing! I remember Larry Merchant using it when barrera beat hamed
Ali took Foreman's but he got it back. I am convinced that Roy wasn't shot, Tarver took his soul and he was never the same. He hesitated more, and with his style, he was doomed.
but that was true case. hamed never did anything of note again. barring a forthcoming comeback at cruiserweight
We all know FlIVd is full of it and i have a theory about this phenomenon. I think FlIVd seems to overlook the fact that he acknowledges himself that guys see their biggest pay days after fighting FlIVd and they basically cash in. Theyre no longer motivated to compete like they used to. I mean think about it, you get paid more money than youve ever seen in your life to go 12 rounds with a guy who isnt much of a puncher and runs and holds most of the fight and in your next fight youre making nowhere near the same amount and youre getting punched in the face which in comparison to floyd feels like a jackhammer so you think to yourself "man screw this. i had my moment. Im out". Chino didnt even have a fight. He couldnt get out of dodge quick enough. Chino must have an alter to Adrien Broner somewhere in his house.
Kovalev never recovered from the beating Ward put on him in the second half of the *first* fight. He's been mentally checked out ever since..
It's tossed around way too much. Gatti-Gamache, Barrera-Hamed, Pacquiao-De La Hoya, fights that retired guys with knockouts or knocked off your high horse in Hamed case and can't take it. Those are fights where that could be used. Mayweather out boxing someone to a boring decision is hardly taking someones soul
Kovalev looked past prime when he fought Chilemba. Yet Ward still kissed the canvas and needed a gift decision against this past prime version of him...
