Many people would agree with you.

    I'm not one of them.

    It's not just "woulda, coulda".

You can't just brush away ducking by simply stating "Well, Watanabe has a better resume/he looks better on film, so he must be rated higher".

Watanabe's avoidance of Khaosai would have been a severe blow to Jiro's rankings. H2H-wise especially.

Watanabe-Galaxy situation is just an example, of course.

By the way, I agree with you and Lora on Pong/Pedroza, etc - the whole "longevity/splinter champs defenses/consistency over mediocre/good opponents is better than a spottier record with greater wins and a few losses" issue.

Ebihara over Pong any day of the week.

:good Ebihara has wins over Chionoi, Kingpetch, Efren Torres, among others. And clearly a better example of Wonjongkam's style if you ask me.

Although IMO, Watanabe had no reason to duck Khaosai.

...i mean i can't stress enough how big a beating i think the heavies have taken in this thread. People are absolutely horrified that Marciano is in the sixties and Frazier is in the 90s, never mind that Dempsey is outside the 100, that Tyson is outside the 100, that Johnson is outside the 100.

I'd say the exact opposite is true and we have to be careful about not overcompensating.

I know it sounds crazy but as far as I know Poontarat was regarded as a better fighter/was a much more eastablished fighter at the time.

    Khaosai was just a challenger.

    Talk about dodging a bullet.

I've said that in the thread already, and it's not crazy, Poontarat held the belt, admittedly after a dull as ditchwater jabbing match with Orono that neither man deserved to win, and got off the deck to get rid of Espadas in Saad-Kates-esque fashion.

Olympic medalist, trained by Charles Atkinson. And he beat Watanabe first time IMO. Then Jiro battered him in the rematch.

    What about Bus Station, Flea?

I don't know why, but I always thought he is underrated even in his own country.
