What makes it a great win: This display is up there with Whitaker-McGirt II, McGirt-Brown and Jones-Toney as one of the finest all-round boxing clinics of the decade. As is often forgotten now, Barkley was the pre-fight favourite. He had recently beaten Thomas Hearns again, and was perceived as a bigger, stronger, rougher competitor than the younger Toney. The Blade attempted to stamp his authority from the first bell, rushing out and swinging for the fences. Toney met him in centre ring, used his superior accuracy and defence to outland him in the opening exchanges, and basically won every minute of every round until the slaughter was halted in the 9th.
The cynic would say: Barkley was a mediocrity by this point.

love how you build barkley up when in reality he had lost to a 37 year old duran at middleweight and then got his ass caved in off nigel benn after 1 round. typical bias bull**** from you, drug riddled toney picked apart a corpse

benns victory over mccllelan is a bonafide top 5 performance of the 90s with eubanks victory over watson a top 15 :deal

surprise surprise, you have mccallum in there for beating watson

i guarantee that if anabolic steroid disgrace toney, jones or hopkins had beat mcclellan then it would be high up on your incredibly bias list.

Good list, must have taken a long time to compile. I would have thought Benn v McLellan would have been in there (personally that would be top 10 for me).

 

What about McCallum's rematch with kalambya.Both were past their prime and i thought it was a could have gone either way kind of fight, but it was of an extremely high quality and worth mention somewhere.

 

Why? Just because some crooked judges said it was a draw? The 2nd fight wasn't even that good of a performance from Lennox.

great work Popkins, i seen this thread earlier today before i was leaving for work. I quickly turned on my Ipod and saved this on wifi so i could view it at work. Great work.

Theres not much problems i have with your list, besides some ratings you gave to fighters in "Quality Of Opponent" like Sasakul an A? Hill only a B-? and theres quite a few others. Besides that extraordinary work, I know u made a 2000's one also, i'll be reading that again.

26.Chris Eubank TKO9 Nigel Benn / Middleweight / 1990
Quality of Opponent: B+
Quality of Performance: A
What makes it a great win: Benn was on a roll at the time, having stopped Doug DeWitt and Iran Barkley in his last two outings. Eubank was unproven by comparison, having fought an inferior standard of opposition in his career to date. This was a huge domestic showdown in the UK between hated rivals, and after an incredible battle it was Benn who wilted in the 9th round.
The cynic would say: Michael Watson had already stopped Benn, proving that Benn’s punch resistance was questionable at the highest level

 

If anyone cares to compare my input on this forum with yours, they will see that I am a serious boxing fan and poster, and you are a brainless teenage internet troll.

I thought it was a great list. Any reason you didn't have Carbajal-Gonzalez higher?

And even though you pointed out you're reasons not for including Whitaker vs de la Hoya, Trinidad vs de la Hoya and Quartey vs de la Hoya did you still not think of including them because they still went down as official wins?
