He was very good to watch, not many 9st boxers from these shores could punch or deliver so much exitement in a ring as him, i thought that he was taking a break because of the 9/11 carryon, as before his fights he'd declare god is great in arabic, wich at that time might not of been a great idea, but retired with a lot of good fights left in him.
The article was ok, you should have kept it shorter, the premise that Naz is **** is only becuase he lost his last fight....he was the best for 5 years and tested himself against the best. Not on the level of Barrera, Morales, Marquez or Pac but then they are all time greats...Naz top 5 all time great british fighter.
[quote Anyone like to share thoughts in my thoughts?[/quote] Yes. Barrera ruined him. That will always be my over-riding memory of Hamed. Unquestionably a great, great fighter. He was also a bully. And when the bully got taken down by a no nonsense Barrera. It broke his will. Broke his ego. Crushed him. A man with his mental fortitude could never come back from a defeat like that. It was over. Curtains. P.S: Couldn't stand Hamed back in the day. Think he's the dogs bollocks now though. Isn't it strange how when time goes by you start to really appreciate fighters and wish they were still around?
The thing with Naz there was a lot of stuff about him which was basically a sideshow. All the posing and posturing, the taunting and belittling of opponents in the ring which I personally couln't stand were irrelevent really, because the only really unique thing about him was his freakish power. He was arguably the hardest hitting Featherweigt ever. He wasn't a great, he had to many bad habits and this was exposed when he fought an elite fighter in Barrera and to lesser extent Kelley especially his bad balance. He was very good though but for me never a great.
[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brha42VKlCk[/ame] good documentary on naz that i upped. :yep so disappointing the way it all ended. least haye came out and told us he's retired. naz never even did that. :verysad
Ok your article was average, also your forgetting that your a nobody random guy yourself you **** wit. Doing research on Nazeem isnt hard, maybe somone like Jack Johnson or a Rocky Maricano. Naz career was really straightforward and we all know he was a commercial asset ****wit. He cleared out his vision and held all the major belts but peaked quickly, let his ego get the better of him and come up short against Barrera. He was talented enough to be able to fight all of the greats in history head to head, would have won some and lost some. His achievement were great for a British fighter and short of recent greats like Barrera, Morales, Pac.
thought it was a good and balanced article, I didnt agree with it all of course, but the subject of Hamed the fighter & person means that disagreement is inevitable at some point! cant believe someone here said it was too long Some of the things I dont agree with reading the posts here, that Hamed was so humiliated by the Barrera defeat he didnt want to come back... well he DID come back and won! I havent watched Naz's last fight since it happened, but I do remember the fans getting on his back cos he was boxing more carefully, & he didnt like it. I just think Naz the person became more unlikable to the general public near the end cos he was always going on about his religion, wether its right or wrong religion is a turn-off to many a boxing fan turning up waiting to be entertained by some fistic action, no one likes being preached too, they just want to hear Naz being cocky & funny, cos thats why they liked him in the first place! It just seemed that the young(old) Naz was no more, he was more about winning and getting all religious preacher on folk, instead of the fun young gunslinger he used to be. To me Naz became more religious as he got older & as a result it killed his popularity, & I think the love affair with the average man on the street was over, & Naz on hearing the boos ring around during his last fight had a '**** it' moment, & quit. Just some of my thoughts on the subject, & hopefully no-one comes in and accuses me of anything because of the delicate subject matter as I loved Naz as a fighter & person, & have told a story here a couple of times of a great thing he done for one of my pals, just because Naz heard he was a big fan of his. Thats my opinion on Naz the persons quick career, Naz the fighter though is more complicated!
