That's a great point.. Mancini was doing very well and winning against Arguello until he got caught in one of those late rounds. Then Arguello got his momentum and put him away.

i enjoy watching this fight..Foreman reminds me of a lion attacking a gazelle. Although Norton was Mr. Body Beautiful (no homo), Foreman just seemed so much stronger than him.

I like the following in H2H matters:

    Robinson
    Gavilan
    Leonard
    Hearns
    Rodriguez
    Napoles
    Griffith
    Duran
    Basilio
    Burley

Armstrong, Whitaker, Ross and McLarnin were all great fighters, but they were pretty much blown up lightweights.

Duran and Napoles were still very solidly built at 147 and could hang with the bigger, more aggressive sorts that would probably overwhelm the other great lightweights.

Burley is the one pick I am unsure of, given that there is no footage of him as a welterweight and also his patchy record whilst at welterweight. Giving him the benefit of the doubt here though...

Even if it's not Burley though, I probably would pick someone like Mickey Walker next, who again, would probably be too big for the likes of Armstrong, Ross and McLarnin to handle. Whitaker may be able to outbox a Basilio or Walker, but again, I probably wouldn't favour him to do so, and those two would fair much better against the other great welters than Whitaker would.

Is that list in any particular order?

Swap out Burley for Walker and I'd have the same list.

It kinda is without putting too much thought into it; instinctively that's how I'd have it.

Giving it a bit of thought I might tweak the order a little.

It's interesting to think about how many weight jumping feats depend on there being a relatively weak champion to defeat in order to accomplish that feat.

Not many come by dethroning an all time great who is a natural in the weight class (who isn't past his prime).

Had Whitaker to face a Kid Gavilan say instead of a Buddy McGirt, he wouldn't have become a weterweight champ.

Had Armstrong to face a Sugar Ray Leonard instead of a Barney Ross, I doubt he becomes welterweight champ.

If Ross had to face an Emile Griffith instead of a Jimmy McLarnin he would have been bossed around by Emile.

I think their fight was Mancini's peak performance myself, strange as it might seem. Arguello was ahead by 5, 2 and 3 points at the time of stoppage. I reckon Arguello beats him easier in a rematch.

Interesting opinion tho. Mancini got some good wraps after this fight.

At his best Wilfredo Gomez was the most complete boxer ever.

At their best Frazier beats Ali 8/10 times

Charles beats Dempsey by a clear decision

The heavyweights in the 80's had as much talent as the heavys in the 70's and more then the heavyweights in the 90's.

Holman Williams should be ranked above Burley, matched him when they fought and has a better resume. The so called Robinson "duck" of Burley makes people rank him higher then Holman which makes little sense.

Holyfield was tailor made for Bowe. Majority of the great heavyweight beat him clearly his defence was awful.

Armstrong beats both Duran and Whitaker at lightweight.

    Lloyd Marshall stops RJJ

Kid Norfolk would have beaten Tunney

    Evander Holyfield is quite overrated.

Razor Ruddock had as much single-shot power as any Heavyweight.

Gerald McClellan had an all time elite chin, every bit as impressive, if not more so, than his punching power. His skills were poor, though.

Danny Lopez would've KO'd Barrera and Marquez down the stretch in a 15 rounder.

    Meldrick Taylor's speed is overrated.

Roy Jones Jr. is very overrated at Lt. Heavy.

Ezzard Charles, in the majority of the footage available (albeit with most of it being past his prime), is quite boring.

Willie Pep isn't a top 5 defensive fighter based on the footage available. His footwork is arguably the best ever, though.

Gatti/Ward I is an overrated fight which Gatti won on my card.

Pedroza beats Sanchez in a tight one.

Watson/Eubank II was easily a better fight than McClellan/Benn.

-The best version of Medel would have stopped Orlando Canizalez, Jeff Chandler and Miguel Lora......
-The best version of Medel looks better on film than the best of Olivares or Zarate......
-Medel today would be a top 5 p4p.....(is this unpopular?)
-Pryor was not too skilled in my opinion.....never impressed me.....although I consider him a very good fighter H2H at the weight because his physical attributes....
-Rex Layne was too crude, and his win against Charles should be counted more as a thing against Charles than counted as a great win for Layne (this is probably unpopular, if I´m not missing something about the fight that would change the result, you know)...
-Jack Dempsey was overrated before, but today he seems a bit underrated around here...if you ask me.....
-Victor Galindez would beat prime Roy Jones Jr...by late TKO.....at least once in a series of 3......
