I think the division is pretty weak.
Juan Diaz is the only decent fighter
David Diaz is a VERY poor champion.

I doubt it too. But it doesn't matter, this is not about Juan Diaz, or Williams or Duran...it is about what boxers have been the best in every single decade.

The lightweight division has been weak ever since Duran. Theres usually a guy thats head and shoulders above the rest. Mosley, PBF, Floyd now J Diaz. Its really never been competitive lately..its more of a stepping stone weight

Right now the division looks weak to me too, but we have to think about a decade, not just what we have at the present.

I agree with you and other posters that Juan Diaz is the only good/great boxer at the present in that division....

Regarding David Diaz.........I don't think he would have been a champion if he had fought in the 70s or 80s.

Not true. The quality of boxers that came out after Duran left was amazing. Arguello, Rosario, Chavez, Ramirez, Macinni, Camacho, etc etc etc.

Maybe in those days there was one guy dominating, but the quality of the contenders was better...today sucks big time.

Anyway, I would like to know which decade you consider the weakest one.

This decade I agree because just think of Mosley..He left in the late 90s and he left the division weak. There was reallly no one after him (a legit lightweight). And I do think Juan D is a bit overrated just because the division is so shallow he sticks out

I agree with you. Juan Diaz stands out because the rest of contenders are not as good (for example) as the contenders from the 70s or 80s.

I believe that Juan Diaz would have lost against Buchanan, Manccini, Rosario, Arguello, DeJesus, Duran, Chavez, Camacho, Ramirez etc etc etc.

I didn't want to mention Castillo or Corrales because they are from the same decade....but you are right, they would have raped JD.

This generation is weak, only Juan Diaz is valuable.

The past generation was better: Castillo, Johnston, Corrales, Mayweather, Freitas, Casamayor, etc.

I think you quoted the wrong post. I said that Castillo and Corrales (who are modern fighters) would have raped him, maybe I went a little too far, but I still pick both of them by TKO/KO over J. Diaz.

The other boxers I mentioned would have defeated J. Diaz as well, this is just my opinion....if you disagree, that's fine with me.

Regarding Ramirez, I believe that he would have defeated JD because he had better boxing sills and good power. Losing to Arguello, Camacho or Rosario is not a shame, those boxers were much better than any boxer that Diaz has fought so far.

I just want to add something, I don't have any problem with the modern boxers, the ones I mentioned are considered modern as well, but I am not blind and I recognize the quality of those boxers.

Feel free to type a list of boxers from other decades that most considered great, but you might think that they aren't

The weakest decade for 135 Lighteights.
Try 1995-96 prior to Shane Mosley.
There were a couple of European belt holders --- Holiday, Mendy.
