I decided to watch this as i'm a fan of Kelley and never seen this fight.

    Kevin Kelley v Harold Warren

    1 Kelley
    2 Kelley
    3 Warren
    4 Warren
    5 Kelley
    6 Warren
    7 Kelley
    8 Even
    9 Kelley
    10 Kelley

    97-94 Kelley

Good fight good action all the way Warren has an awkward aggressive style and had success with the Southpaw right hook, Kelley did stay on the inside too much and made the fight harder than it needed to be but that's just the way Kelley fights he has the skills, speed, movement, but he likes a tear up.

I felt like this was anyone's fight until the last 2 rounds in which Kelley clearly won as Warren started to tire. A few tough rounds to score when they exchanged punches on the inside with very little to choose between them. But in the end Kelley was a deserved winner in another entertaining fight on his resume.

PS is Harold Warren related to Frankie Warren ?

Just watched this one aswell based on your write up and knowing both fighters have been in some wars before!!!!

    Thomas Tate vs Omar Sheika

    1 Tate
2 Sheika 10-7 scores a knockdown and gets an extra point for a very one sided round.
3 Sheika 10-8 but i think 10-9 could be possible aswell Tate was handily winning the round and the knockdown was a flash knockdown.
    4 Tate
5 Fight is stopped in between rounds because of the damage to Sheika's eye.

    38-35 Sheika.

I haven't got much else to add a very exciting back and forth slugfest with an unsatisfying ending, Tate was considerably past his prime but did well to weather the storm in the 2nd round and looked like he was starting to take control after the 4th round but who knows ?

Sheika's eye swelled up badly as early as the 1st round a bit like an Arturo Gatti eye and it just got worse and worse. Me personally i would've gave Sheika one more round as the fight was still very much up in the air and Sheika had a considerable points lead. I think he deserved 1 more round to see if he could pull out a KO a bit like Toney vs Littles.

All in all though a very exciting short slugfest but with a frustrating ending.

Yes, they're brothers. I believe they're also related to '70s middleweight Wilie Warren who fought everyone on the scene at the time (Hagler, Antuofermo, et al)

Watched this a couple of years back. Loved it! This is what I wrote:

There wasn't much finesse to this, but when it's two rock-em-sock-em robots in there, finesse is not a requirement.

Kelly Pavlik v Edison Miranda (middleweight title eliminator)

    Round 1: 10-9 Pavlik
    Round 2: 10-9 Miranda
    Round 3: 10-9 Pavlik
    Round 4: 10-9 Pavlik
    Round 5: 10-10 Even
Round 6: 10-6 Pavlik (scores 2 knockdowns and 1 point is deducted from Miranda for spitting out his mouthpiece)
    Round 7: Pavlik stops Miranda

Total through 6 completed rounds: 59-53 Pavlik (actual scores unknown)

Just what the day required to start out with, a great punch-up. After 7 rounds, both their faces displayed what they had just gone through with Miranda sporting a severely swollen right eye and Pavlik's nose that had turned into a bloody spray nozzle.

Earnie Shavers v Bernardo Mercado (NJ rounds basis)

    Round 1: Even
    Round 2: Shavers
Round 3: Shavers (scores a knockdown)
    Round 4: Mercado
    Round 5: Shavers
    Round 6: Shavers
Round 7: Mercado drops Shavers and stops him

Total through 6 completed rounds: 4-1-1 Shavers (actual scores: 4-1-1 and 4-2 both for Shavers and a 3-3 Even)

The right hand that Shavers dropped Mercado with was one of the best he ever threw. Man, it had everything on it. But the Columbian got up and Shavers was gassed by the 4th. A bit of a reprieve where a split glove had to be replaced was beneficial to Earnie and Mercado for that matter, as he wasn't exactly overflowing in the stamina department either. But Earnie was spent by the 7th and it was more of a good solid shove that put Earnie down along with a right. Watch right at the end of the film when Mercado is being hoisted by his corner. You can just see a pair of hands grab him around his neck from behind and then the camera cuts away. Well, I recall seeing this live back in the day and when i saw those hands grab him from behind I thought to myself, "Man, at that angle, that guy was going to yank Mercado down." And sure enough, when the camera returned, they were all laying on the canvas. The idiot who yanked him down (and was lucky he didn't break Mercado's neck) was his manager Joe Conforte. A slimy little man who was also noted as being Oscar Bonavena's manager late in his career. Conforte owned the Mustang Ranch Brothel in Nevada and was also generally recognized as the guy who paid to have Bonavena killed due to Oscar's dalliance with Conforte's wife. One other thing to note on this fight was the post-fight interview which was not on the video I watched. In the interview Cosell asked Mercado what he had done to show such improvement. And Conforte jumps right in and says, "I'll answer that. He used to smoke, he don't no more!" I recall Mercado looking at him with this, will you shut up - kind of a look. Too funny.

What did you think about it, Antonio? I watched and scored it about 4 years ago, but didn't think much of it. Did you score?

    Yep.
I thought it was gonna be a Qawi beat down but I had it 95-95.

Crous was winning-not exactly dominating, either-the first 8 rounds with the jab, then Qawi took over.

This is what I wrote when I first watched it:

After watching Dwight Qawi against Eddie Davis I still had it in my head to watch a little more of the Camden Buzzsaw. Well, I didn't choose the best one, let me tell you. I watched his title-winning cruiserweight match with South Africa's Piet Crous. Here we go.

    Round 1: 10-9 Crous
    Round 2: 10-9 Crous
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Crous
    Round 5: 10-9 Qawi
    Round 6: 10-10 Even
    Round 7: 10-9 Crous
    Round 8: 10-9 Crous
    Round 9: 10-9 Qawi
    Round 10: 10-9 Qawi
    Round 11: Qawi KO's Crous

Total through 10 completed rounds: 97-95 Crous (actual scores: 98-96 for Crous and 2 Even scores of 96-96 and 95-95)

To begin, Crous was strictly a boxer. I mean no pop at all to his punches. And Qawi was fighting like he was underwater. That is how slow he was getting his punches off. If Crous had anything at all in his shots he might have been able to do something to this version of Qawi, but at least he boxed steadily. It is hard to believe that the following year Qawi would be engaging Holyfield in a life and death 15 rounder. At least when he got the taste of blood, he went after Crous and finished the job. Not a fight I would recommend for action, though.

    Same here....

As a kid, when i was 12 or 13, I imagined Qawi steamrolling until the stoppage.

But I guess we get the best idea when we actually WATCH the fight lol

I havent seen Ocasio-Crous since the original telecast...might as well.....Ocasio's brother had been murdered and found drugs on his pockets weeks before. He was not up for it I believe.

Nevertheless I had visited Ocasio to his house a few months before. Being Puerto Rico, everyone knew where everyone lived and my dad asked for permission prior to the visit.

Ossie was extremely accommodating, taking pictures with me and my friends and signing autographs despite the fact he couldnt read or write. (his wife wrote the message he wanted to convey and then he signed the autographs).

The Ocasios were great people and I was saddened to see all of this happen to them.

    Two observations:
    1. De Leon was gunning for the knockout. Wrong strategy.
    2. How did he take so many blows without falling after the first knockdown? De Leon had a very good chin!

They say Qawi-Holyfield 1 was the greatest Cruiserweight fight and I agree...after Murphy-Mutti, this could have been #3 , a great battle.

Back then, De Leon was not boring!!!
