Riddick Bowe v Pierre Coetzer - Great little slugfest this one, just a shame about the ending. Bowe lands a low blow and when Coetzer goes to complain the the ref Bowe lands with a great left uppercut and eventually forces the ref to jump in. Coetzer showed massive heart though, he was a pretty decent heavyweight. Joe Selkirk v Steve O'Meara - Sky only showed highlights of this one. I actually scored it a draw. Selkirk has big trouble figuring O'Meara out in the first half of the fight and couldn't find any rhythm at all. Started landing some good solid shots by coming him with his long jab. Decent looking prospect, a good learning fight for him.
Katsunari Takayama vs Tshepo Lefele A pretty big gulf in class in this one. Lefele landed some decent hooking shots, but his openness when swinging these wide shots also left him wide open. Takayama basically just overwhelmed him with flurries of punches whenever he spotted the openings. Ended in round 6, where another flurry on the ropes seen the ref jump in. Takayama will be the first Japanese fighter ever to challenge for the IBF title after winning this fight, which acted as an eliminator. Shame his opponent is Joyi, who will eat him alive :yep Diego Corrales vs Jose Luis Castillo I After voting for it in the awards thread as fight of the decade, I had to watch it again (and for the first time in pristine condition!). I don't think I need to explain what happened in this one. As a side-note, I just noticed Hatton is the only fighter, so far, to have made Castillo take a count.
Wilfredo Vazquez v Antonio Avelar - What a war! Avelar was a good few years past his best but he put on a fantastic showing here, Vazquez was boxing well on the back foot, occasionally getting drawn into a war but usually getting the better of things but the pressure of Avelar got to him. The 5th round was one of the best I've ever seen, Avelar dropped Vazquez hard with a left right at the start of the round, before Vazquez returned the favour about a minute later and unleashed hell on Avelar after dropping him, somehow him survived and manages to turn Vazquez back on the ropes and land bombs on him, it was an unbelievable 3 minutes of fighting. Avelar eventually stops Vazquez in the 8th after dropping him again. If you haven't seen this fight, check it out :deal I love stumbling onto great fights on Youtube...
Saldivar VS. Famechon Watanabe Vs. Ballas Watanabe Vs. Kazuo Numata Vs. Rojas Where to begin ? :think
I sent you them, didnt I? There all good performances, Saldivar vs Famechon is a good match of a pressure-fighter vs a pure boxer. With two good performances by Watanabe, especially the Ballas fight. If it is the disk I sent you, I dont think Numata vs Rojas works, it doesn't work on my disk. Also I recently wrote to Johnny Famechon and got a letter back yesterday, he mentioned he was not focussed for the Saldivar fight, as he was getting ready to quit boxing anyway.
Haye-Mock - I'd forgot how ****ed Haye was after that big shot to the temple. Worse than Mock was at the stoppage, that's for sure.
Aye its that disc, watching the Kazuo fight atm. First fight was class, was it an aussie commentator ? Lovn this trumpets and EH EH EH EH EH commentator jive
