Jones is a damn good commentator. Hopefully he realises that and packs in fighting.

    Foreman v Holyfield

In Holyfied's first defence as World Heavyweight Champion he had gone five years without going the distance with any of opponents and he was in with 42 year old George Foreman who was aiming to eclipse Archie Moore's record to become the oldest heavyweight champion.

Foreman showed a great chin for his age, he came out with his shell-like defence and his two most impressive spells were the end of rounds 2 and 5. Round 7 was the best round of the fight and both men traded and had good success. Foreman's toughest round was probably the nineth and he was fortunate to survive the 9th.

Big George gave good account of himself did well to survive the 12 rounds and still try to fight and land a money punch until the final bell.

The crowd got on their feet at the end of the feet to salute the achievement of 42 year old Foreman.

Holyfield takes a well deserved UD win in front of legends at ringside Joe Frazier and Ali and who both got rapturous applause when introduced to the crowd before the fight.

Wilfredo Gomez v Salvador Sanchez WBC Featherweight Title fight

What a great fight and what a classy and complete boxer Sanchez was - he was something else.

Sanchez turned pro at the age of 16 and crammed in 44 fights in his short career that was prematurely ended at the age of 23 when he tragically lost his life in a car accident, shortly after making his 10th winning title defence against the great Azumah Nelson.

In this fight with Gomez, he dropped the challenger in the first round. His slick defence was so classy. He even allowed Gomez to back him up to the ropes and corner and effortlessly slipped punches and countered. His stiff jab was used sparingly but his accuracy when he attacked was clinical and constantly made a classy fighter like Gomez miss.

In the eight round stoppage he thumped in three hard left hooks to the body and then got Gomez on to the ropes were he was ruthlessly accurate and all of his flurry of hard punches ensured that Gomez wasnt going to return to his feet again.

Salvador Sanchez, a great boxer and his fight with Gomez a must see for any boxing fan.:good

''Sugar'' Shane Mosley vs. Willy Wise

This was Mosley's second fight at welter and the fight that immediately preceded the first bout with De La Hoya. I was interested in seeing how Shane started off at the weight, and if he already looked comfortable at it before he fought De La Hoya. Maybe this wasn't the best opponent for my question to be answered, but, oh well, I'll divulge.

Wise fought quite a conservative fight, looking reluctant to do anything, which was understandable give Mosley's blazing handspeed. To combat Wise's unwillingness to engage, Mosley started carrying his left low, purposefully leaving openings in the hope his opponent would open up more. Wise took the bait, and was made to pay for it, being forced to take a count at the tail-end of the opening round.

The second started off with, rather bizarrely, Wise coming forward and trying to force the fight upon Mosley, who didn't engage until the halfway point of the round, when he had Wise hurt again. Willy clung on, and was dropped on the ref's call of ''break'', which resulted in a two-point deduction from Mosley and an increased sense of urgency. He quickly set about finishing Wise off, and almost acheived it, when he had him severely rocking in the closing seconds. He couldn't take him out in the second, but the writing was on the wall for the third.

It was evident from the start of the third what Shane's intentions were, try to end Wise's evening. He went about it with a series of attacks, which he did with such ferocity, velocity and regularity that the referee was constantly standing in close proximity to the two combatants. Wise aptly had the initials B.U.M on the backside of his shorts, and when he was put on them for a third time in the round(the previous two being ruled slips) Mr.Halpern signaled that he had seen enough.

All this fight really proved is what we had already known of the lightweight ''Sugar'', he was fast, used a lot of feints and was more of an accumulation puncher, despite his knockout ratio. It was the fights to occur after this that were to shape the career of the Shane Mosley we know today.
