Takahiro Aoh vs Devis Boschiero (111-117)

Oooohhhh!!! Robbery in Tokyo methinks. Boschiero definitely won this fight, by a pretty comfortable margin too. I can't see how anyone would think Aoh was remotely close to winning this one (not that I've see anyone claim that he did deserve the nod) ****, even Aoh himself didn't think he won - at least that's what I garnered when the final bell rang and he trudged slowly back to his corner looking solemn. I'm pretty sure he knows he didn't deserve the nod in this one, and his body language at the end of the fight was that of a beaten man if you ask me.

Aoh didn't look like his usual self. All his typical composure and sharpness was gone. Taka looked weak, lethargic, about as sharp as a sack of wet mice. Most of Aoh's punches were cuffing shots, thrown with almost no venom whatsoever. He very rarely penetrated Boshchiero's guard with these weak blows, and he had no chance of pushing the Mexican back with those kind of punches. Boschiero looked good. Tight guard, good, sharp punching and very poised. He had a gameplan and he stuck to it. Stood his ground and tagged Aoh with hard, clean shots consistently, dominating the mid rounds in a sweep. He did everything right that Aoh did wrong.

It's not nice seeing robberies. I hope there is a rematch.

    Interesting. :think

Have to check it out tomorrow, I heard calls of robbery but not that wide, a few did said he could've feasibly taken every round if he let his hands go more frequently however, so perhaps there were a couple of swing rounds.

Denis is Italian, by the way.:)

I thought that Italian commentary was a bit out of place :yep:patsch

Definitely a robbery in my eyes. Aoh barely landed any clean shots at all. Looked very weak, frequently being pushed to the canvas by Bosch. I thought it could be scored anywhere in the 118-110/116-112 bracket.

Pongsaklek Wonjongkam Vs Suriyan Sor Rungvisai

    115-113 to Wonjongkam

First time I'm watched either of these. Pabby's suggestion as I was looking for fights to score.

Close fight with a lot of close rounds. Really enjoyed the 10th and 11th which I both gave to Pong.

I've watched a fair bit of Page myself over the last few weeks. A hard hitter with exceedingly fast hands. I thought he looked tremendous against James Tillis despite suffering an early knockdown.

Scored it pretty much the same except had round 7 a draw and 11 to Pong.

To be honest I really struggled with it being in another language. Which I found odd as half the time I'm watching it in English I think the commentators are wrong!

I would've had it a draw if not for the point deduction so in fact we've covered three bases ;-)

Khaosai Galaxy Vs Kongtonaree Payakaroon (WBA 115lb title)

    KHAOSAI: 2; 3; 6; 7; 9; 11; 12
    KONGTONAREE: 1; 4; 5(+1); 8; 10;

    GALAXY 114-113 PAYAKAROON

The two less capable brothers of two of Thailands most intriguing stylists, Galaxy, the long-reigning Super Fly titlist defended against Kongtonaree, who had beaten Payao Poonterat via decision in only his second boxing contest and convinced the Olympian to retire.

Galaxy looked sloppier than ever here, as Kongtonaree, a similarly succesful Nak Muay (5 weight Lumpinee champion) as his younger brother Samart, employed a similar style to his more succesful International Boxing Brother, employing constant lateral movement. Unlike Samart, Kong had a far less capable offence, at least here, where he safely evades Khaosai throughout and has some success in close rounds with his more accurate punching.

Khaosai gets tired and frustrated, and looked slow thoughout against his nimble and smaller foe, who really showed up Galaxys awful balance, plodding feet and lack of handspeed as well as anyone.

Khaosai relied on outworking Payakaroon, although he didn't really bludgeon him all that much. Payakaroon had a good 5th, scoring a flash knockdown with a right hand as he stepped to the side and left Khaosai in his wake.

Khaosai came forward always, as ever. Decent fight, competitive, but Payakroon didn't punch enough to win IMO.

    Kuniaki Shibata vs Susumu Okabe

This is Shibata after losing to Alfredo Escalara by brutal KO. And this is a very tasty ten rounder.
Okabe is a bit of a brawler, and shows: fast feet, steady pressure, nice head movement and good punching form (if a lack of straight punching.) He is obviously a talented fighter, but he takes a wee while to get going in this fight.

Shibata starts off in great form, popping the jab at range, right into Okabe’s face, and the times that Okabe did get through into range, Shibata would show lovely counter combinations then slide out of range, really nice stuff.
In the fourth Okabe started to come on, he upped his pressure and workrate and closed the distance well with his feet whilst coming in with sharp hooks then working the body. Shibata struggled as Okabe upped the workrate, and tended to drift into defensive mode rather than counter back, allowing his offensive output to really tail off.

Okabe kept it up as the fight progressed as Shibata favoured a long-range game and was piling the points up with his jab, however around the seventh Shibata started to mix it more and more and his sharp counters really caught the eye.

The ninth round was superb two-way toe to toe action as both guys battled it out, Shibata came off superior with a crisp combination hurting Okabe near the end of the round, but Okabe fought back bravely. The tenth had some more action just not on that level.
I was impressed with Shibata here, he shows lovely offensive manoeuvres tied down with solid defensive skills and awareness, however he was occasionally just caught off guard with silly shots, regularly throughout the fight.

    Alberto Davila vs Rodolfo Martinez
This was an eliminator for a shot at Zarate who had just dethroned Martinez as WBC champion.
Davila starts brilliantly, he kept the pressure on Martinez forcing him back then took advantage of any mistakes Martinez did with hard sharp counters, but it was the speed of Davila that was really surprising Martinez.

Martinez didn’t look that good on the backfoot, against Zarate I was impressed in the way he found angles to launch his counters off the backfoot, but here he just jabbed cautiously as he retreated, and Davila expertly out jabbed him and stepped in with counters. I love watching Davila outjab bigger guys, he is so effective at it.

In the third Davila for whatever reason shuts down offensively and allows Martinez to take the round by virtue of a busier and steadier jab. However, Davila regains control in the fourth.
Martinez turns southpaw in the fifth and sixth and takes the front foot and is effective as he forces Davila back with a right jab, then pumping combinations off of it. However, he is really open as a southpaw and Davila takes advantage of this in the sixth by resorting to countering and does a great job.

Martinez reverts to orthodox for the seventh but a lovely right hand lead by Davila drops him heavily, Martinez is up and Davila assaults him with both hands before finding another right hand that sends him down again, he recovers and a Davila combination drops him but he gets up. Martinez gets back up and survives on his feet for a good minute and a half and looks to be surviving the round before the ensuing Davila storm eventually just blows him off his feet.

Lupe Pintor vs Alberto Davila II

    What a fight, just amazing.

Davila is dazzling to start with, moving in and out of range with ease, and some spiteful combos. However, by the 5th Davila's movement has slowed and he begins to stand and trade with Pintor, iniatally he has some success with his quicker hands and crisper punching, but soon Pintor is wearing him down with hard accurate combo's to head and body.

The fight keeps this pattern till the 13th where Davila tries to hit and move but is so tired.

Great action throughout and both guys get buzzed badly multiple times.

    Davila: 1,2,3,4,5,7,15
    Pintor: 6,8,9,10,11,12,13,14
    Total: 143-142 Pintor (8-7)

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez

    First chance I've had to watch this fight as I was out on the night and have been busy for various reasons since. My scorecard was;

    Round 1- Pacquiao 10-9 JMM
    Round 2- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 3- Pacquiao 10-10 JMM
    Round 4- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 5- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 6- Pacquiao 10-10 JMM
    Round 7- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 8- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 9- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 10- Pacquiao 9-10 JMM
    Round 11- Pacquiao 10-9 JMM
    Round 12- Pacquiao 10-9 JMM

My scorecard- Manny Pacquiao 113-117 Juan Manuel Marquez.

Cannot see a way Pacquiao won this fight- the countering of Marquez was just too accurate and it was he, not Pacquiao, who was landing the more effective punches. The commentary and scoring of the fight of HBO was bordering on ridiculous frankly.

Marcos Villasana v Jaime Garza - Awesome little slugfest between 2 guys who could really whack. The one big distinguishing factor in the fight was chins. Garzas wasn't so great and Villasana had a bona fide ATG one and definitely doesn't get half the love he should do when these "Best Chins of all time" threads pop up. Villasana had Garza down in the 1st, and again in the second but round 5 was the best. Villasana hit Garza with a perfect right that sent Garzas gum-shield flying across the ring which prompted both of them to just start unloading wildly but it was Garza who was getting hurt whilst he couldn't put a dent in Villasana. A cracking left-hook flattened Garza to end the fight, brutal finish.

Excellent fight. I feel the urge to get my hands on every Villasana fight now as there must be some real gems I haven't seen yet. :yep
