It was an open thread asking for revisions if need be that everyone checked. McGrain is through like the sun is hot.
Great post. Thomas was just better than Witherspoon, certainly against each other. Witherspoon was in great shape. Thomas had more success than Holmes with his jab (Holmes jab was losing a bit of snap and Thomas had a GREAT jab at any rate) and he took his punches better than Holmes, never being in trouble at any point. It's Thomas' finest hour.
Norton was a better fighter than Witherspoon with a better record. He also sports a much stronger resume. Norton's close to top 20 while Witherspoon wouldn't be top 30.
This feels like a loaded question, but comparing to the Ali that Norton fought, I believe that the Bruno win is superior to it. Past that, I'll take Witherspoon's wins over Norton's. I'm only gonna take into account Witherspoon's first fourteen years into account so that it's fair for Norton, as he fought for much longer than him. Witherspoon has: 13 - 0 Ratliff 22 - 1 - 1 Snipes 26 - 3 Tillis 23 - 1 Page 17 - 1 Broad 15 - 3 Smith 21 - 0 Tubbs 28 - 1 Bruno 13 - 0 Mike Williams 31 - 12 - 2 Alexander 22 - 5 Sims 31 - 4 - 1 Ribalta 23 - 3 Carl Williams And Norton has: 24 - 7 - 3 Clark 41 - 1 Ali 32 - 3 Kirkman 50 - 7 - 4 Quarry 30 - 7 - 1 Garcia 28 - 8 - 2 Stander 22 - 8 - 2 Larry Middleton 52 - 2 - 0 Ali (Should be here) 38 - 0 Bobick 20 - 2 - 1 Zanon 22 - 5 - 2 Young (Shouldn't be here) 17 - 0 Cobb
He beat Mercer but got robbed, and kinda was too old to do too much past then, he has a major losing streak past 97.
That Ali had beat more ranked fighters in the previous 12 months than Bruno did in his career. You are laying it on quite thick for Witherspoon. Beyond reason, I have to say.
He was out of shape and caught badly for the fight, didn't assume enough of Norton, he also immediately beat Norton by UD in their following match. The Ali that Norton beat was NOT the Ali we know.
For sure - https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...best-fighter-on-the-planet-most-often.701311/ Be sure to tell McGrain and the rest of us where we went wrong.
‘ Tubbs was out of shape too, as previously discussed. Etc, etc. Beating Ali (not to mention two disputed decision losses to same) trumps anything on Tim’s record. The idea that Frank freaking Bruno is a better win than Ali is preposterous.
What's with you and Tubbs? I said multiple times that we must take into account everything about a fight, a win is a win and a loss is a loss, but there's a difference between Ali being out of it for a fight and Tubbs being out of it fight. This taken into consideration along with him winning a UD over Norton in their very next fight shows to me that it isn't as good of a win as it's thought to be.
