To early to be on the boat, but the kid has good skills, but need to tight his defence and not bieng to confidence with his tallent.
I se him doing streamly good in the amateurs but i see him doing poorly and lose to fighters with less talent, like Carlos Velazquez one of the twins that fought last week in Telefutura.
Gamboa is fighting Baudel Cardenas on Feb. 8 in the ESPN2 opener. We had that on the show last night, heard it from Duva just before we went on the air. Mike Host, 'Toe2Toe' www.theknockoutnetwork.com
Aah thank you !! The only thing he will/has to develop is his stamina. Nothing more. He is like a seasened vet. Been there done that. Knows all the tricks in the game. Funny how also some people (not you greengloves) say that boxers like him come once-in-a-lifetime. In Cuba there are many guys as talented as Gamboa (Kindelan just to name one).
One thing I noticed: in his amateur fights he can box on the outside countering as well. Wonder if he'll adapt to that strategy again in the pro's if necessary because now all he wants to do is bang and hail away. If another fighter starts pressuring him I wonder if he will still be able to switch strategy. In the ams he was great at it. I also think the strategy of Arena to let him fight often but fight bums is not as wise as letting him fight less often but against more quality opposition. IMO he already got used to fighting bums(with all respect). He is using his opponents as a punching bag. What is he learning from that. Better a fast puncher who keeps him sharp.
Its good hes fighting so often, because at 26 years old with only 8 pro fights he needs to move along fast!
:bart It's not about quantity (opponents) because the quality (gamboa) is already there. HE has to face opponents in quality not quantity.
First title fight for Gamboa! It looks like on the second ESPN card (Feb 22), when Gamboa will take on WBA#11@FW Johnnie Edwards the NABF super-featherweight title will be at stake, at least according to boxrec. Can anybody confirm it? This content is protected
