Theophane responds - Gavin needs to get in line

Call me silly I half agree with Theophane people are talking abut the belt like its was a granted Frankie faces him next or gets the vacant belt. Theophane like all fighters has every right to make a voluntary defence here and there. All British fighters do it we all know Sykes is avoiding Buckland like the plague.

 

I think some of you are taking it to seriously and looking at his comments in the wrong way. Theophane is doing his part in building up this fight. He is likley well aware the Gavin fight will be one of his biggest fights in terms of profile and purse.

But at the moment its just an undercard fight on a bigger Warren card. Thats because people have been and in a sense still are just talking about Frankie Gavin fighting for the British title. It didn't matter if the opponent is Lenny Daws, Theophane or anyone for the vacant belt.

Theophane, by having a bit of trash talk, bigging himself up to be a world level fighter is making it about Gavin vs Theophane.

If you look at all the big domestic fights we wan't to see at the moment its more to do with the rivalry than the British title. Groves vs DeGale. Bellew vs Cleverly would be a big fight because of the war of words between them. Fury vs Price and Chisora, Macklin vs Barker the same. These fights all have momentum something which Gavin vs Theophane or Lenny Daws before it did not have.

 

He's a wallad. Can't take the lad serious. He's an ok fighter but even his style makes it hard for me to take ''hoodstar'' serious.....

 

Yeah that's entirely true.. but Theophane needs to be taking advantage of the fact Frankie and Warren want it, not waste it playing stupid games, which will just make Frank think "Ok.. well **** you then"

 

Frank will say "ok **** you then" and do what? Theres only 1 British title out there. If they want it they need to fight Theophane.

Who gets a better offer. The fighter that rings up Frank Warren saying

"Oh please please let me come on your show and get beat by Frankie Gavin so I can make a small payday"

or the fighter that says

"I am chasing a world title fight, Gavin can get in line and become my mandatory. I have loads of options"


Look at DeGale va Groves. Warren and DeGale wanted that fight. They made Groves a 50k offer. Groves says **** that, makes himself mandatory and the fight goes to purse bids, which his camp wins and he is getting paid 3x that amount.

 

Theophane is looking for a world title bout, why risk it all fighting against Frankie? He's grafted hard in gyms and fights all over the world and has slowly worked his way up to somewhere near title contention. They guy is in his 30s now, why in the hell would he want to risk undoing all the hard work he has put in to get to where he is and risk going back down the pecking order??

If he can secure a world title bout within the next couple of fights then good luck to the guy. As for Frankie, he's done nothing as yet! Lomax is his best win, what is the hurry? he's still a novice in the pro ranks and needs to work his way up. In his 9 fight pro career he's knocked over imported cans and British journey men so far. Which is about right for someone who has had 9 pro fights.

In terms of talent he may have more than Theophane, but pro experience there is no comparison and you cannot blame him for wanting to go after fights which will get him in the title picture. With all respect a fight with Frankie will not catapult to a title shot. It will be a good win over a talented up and coming pro.

 

Read as "I want to try land a big pay day and getting tooled by an upcoming prospect would greatly interfere with that".

Fair enough I suppose. Taking a risk though with this kind of sentiment as Frankie (with Warren behind him) could quite possibly just bypass British and look towards Euro honours.

I think he knows Frank would beat him and whilst he's not necessarily avoiding the fight, he's going to make it extremely difficult for it to happen without being offered a very very good purse.

I met Theophane late last year at Gleasons gym and he came across as real nice bloke

He came and took the title against a Hennesey fighter on a Hennesey show. Good lad

 

Don't see Theophane getting a world title shot. And he isn't anywhere near world level.

 

I'm prepared to match what theopane gets paid to fight me if he beats me which is what he thinks his capable off I will put it in contract even winner takes all I want the British title but if it means waiting an waiting will just move on I'm sure frank has other options I'm sure I'm capable of getting a world title an if I am then the British is a stepping stone what did Ashley do domestically to warrant a British title shot

 

Well he's beaten a world ranked opponent in Corley and mixed it with tough operators in their own backyards. It's fair to say Theophane has mixed it with a better class of opponent.
