Theory on why TV is turning its back on boxing

Too many **** fights/promotions

 

There has been a few things tried to revamp boxing as a tv spectacle like "the contender" which the UFC has taken on to a new level with the ultimate fighter. Also the prizefighter series . Channel 5 did a boxing academy show a few years back.

Boxing has a hardcore following where most of the guys on here would watch any sort of boxing on tv regardless of names etc.
But when casual sport fans tune in to so called big fights they must wonder what all the fuss is about. Traditionally there should be no bigger fight than the heavyweight world championship title bout, but that has been a farce for years. We need more competitive fights on tv main events. Less titles available so a world champ is a world champ not one of 4 at a specific weight class.

nah, at the time most of us used to take pride in revelling in the notoriety.

 

Harrison f*cked the BBC over & Warren shafts ITV talking Khan 2 Sky, just when they were thinking about joe public for a change, why should they bother when all they have 4 choice is a Warren or worse a Maloney Circus act consisting ov imported Russian doorman.

ITV started the rot by ditching World of Sport, every Sat at 2pm you'd get delayed highlights ov every top title fight stateside, even boxing hating bitches new who Hagler/Duran/Hearns/Gomez/Pintor/Curry/Mancini ect were:happy

Yep, Saturday at 2pm om Wor;d of Sport was boxing from the USA. I remember Leonard-Hearns, Mancini-Bramble, Qwai-Spinks amongst others. Even after WOS went off the air ITV were will pretty good for fights from the states, they were very big on Camacho for a while.

 

It aint rocket science folks, MMA to me is as close to Roman gladiator combat as you can get nowadays, & history teaches us that the more violent the combat, the more the masses like it.

The Romans back in the day had to keep taking the violence to new sickening levels just to keep the public interested, & MMA is the 21st century answer to boxing. Its more violent & more nasty, & just like the old days, the public love their violence as violent as possible.

Thats why boxing is falling behind, because its simply history repeating itself. Times change, but the violent nature within human beings stays the same.
MMA is more violent & thuggish than boxing, its a fight boxing cannot win, & the only thing that shocks me is that so called civilised society allows such a form of extreme violence in the form of MMA to exist.

 

****-me, Mancini/Bramble, yeh that was a turn up that one, remember the "Mad Dog" Gene Hatcher & Jonny Bumphus fight was on the same bill, Bumphus was coasting it the Hatcher flattens him & it all kicked off with lou duva getting whacked about as well:happy

I've still got the original ITV Dickie davis tapes somewhere of those fights my mate gave me before he went too OZ 20+ years ago. As i said back then everyone new who had fought in the states as it was the 1st thing we all yapped about on a sat night in the boozer.

ITV even showed fights on a wed night 10.30 from the states Duran/Barclay 1989 was one & Hagler/Duran 1983 on the Monday at 11pm, it shows yer it can be done.

 

Qwai-Spinks was a complete beating, great fighter!!! If you can be arsed you should get those tapes digitised and bang them on You Tube!!

I remember the late night shows on ITV with Sot Chitalada (who'd flattened Charlie Magri) and the Galaxy bothers, great days!!
