Countless fighters now known to have iron chin's got knocked all over the shop as amateurs. Tua being probably the most famous example. De La Hoya in his early career went down a lot.

I'm not saying it will happen with Khan but punch tolerance can go up with age.

De La Hoya was floored twice before becoming world champion once against N.vanaleuza or somone named similer... He also suffered counts against Ike Quartey, Pernell Whitiker and Bernard Hopkins. More suprising then Tua is the fact that Ali was stopped twice and Tyson was also KO'd.

He should have had at least two more years as an amateur.

In the Amateurs you have headgear and bigger gloves which favours the quick fighters imo.

Incorrect he was floored heavily by Craig Watson at Preston Guild hall in the East lancs round of the ABA's he got up to finish strongly and was a worthy winner but the knockdown was a heavy one and other fighters would have been stopped.

everything hes done since the olympics has been wrong

    pulling out of abas
    rematching super-mario kindelan
    turning pro
signing with frank warren (those damn sports network press releases)
accepting oliver harrison as his trainer
    fighting light punching nobodies
looking at his corner when in a hold
not knowing what to do when hit and hurt

having said all that, hes a fighter with exceptional talent and despite the above will do very well, because ultimately the cream rises and talent like that will inevitabley manifest itself on the big stage. of course there are exceptions but if we follow the formula, he should be a world champ, how far he gets after i dont know. dont think he will be p4p material, but you never know, a lot of that is down to discipline and hunger.

No doubt this gut is major talented but we wont be able to judge him until he fights some real top class opposition. Then we can start having a discussion about the lad.

Don't know if anyone else has read Barry McGuigan's latest column for The Mirror - he suggests Khan could beat Pacman as early as September of this year.

    I don't rate McGuigan's column or commentating.

He is so biased when it comes to Khan in particular he might as well work for SN!

It's a good job some of you lot weren't around during the 60's when Henry Cooper had a 21 year old Ali badly hurt after flooring him. I guess we'd have been hearing about Ali's china chin?

Personally, I think Khan has amazing potential, he's got atheltic ability, height, boxing skills, speed and power. He's shown an ability to learn, I thought he boxed well in his last fight. I think the only way he can fail is if his chin is exposed as being very weak. It possibly might be, but we'll have to wait and see.

Cooper putting Ali down is a completely different scenario to Limond putting Khan down. Henry Cooper had a dynamite left hook, and the one he put on Ali was an absolute peach of a punch that would have finished most men. Ali never came away from that fight with a reputation for being chinny.
Willy Limond is not noted as a puncher, yet managed to seriously hurt Khan, who had already been put down a couple of times in fights before.
I think we are entitled to have doubts about Khan's chin and this will continue as long as he is matched with people like Martin Kristjansen.
