This ESPN Haymon Deal is pretty scary..

Once I heard Dana White giving Al Haymon praise for Al complementing the UFC business strategy I knew there was something in the water.
I thought that PBC would be a platform to launch stars and help the one's he already has become household names. Hopefully he doesn't create belts and try to shade the ABC commissions.
I'm all for Al but tradition should not be tampered with, Black man or not.

 

I don't think that he's going in that direction. I think that he really wants to open the doors for good young talent to be seen. Time will tell and if he's not doing things the right way his fighters will start jumping ship.

 

And Haymon had a brother that was a professional boxer, that had a fight against Sugar Ray Leonard.

So Haymon does have some boxing background to his credit...!!!

 

Yeah I really don't like the ESPN deal

I loved FNF, whether it was a new exciting prospect coming up, or just a good story like that Boston bus driver who got beat the **** up. Now he's going to clog the cards with only his fighters, and the other exciting prospects who he doesn't manage won't get any exposure.

I am sad to report to you all that they did NOT can Atlas, in case you couldnt tell from some of Atlas recent rants..... everyone who thought he was trying to keep his job was correct.

Sadly FNF will be gone... but Atlas will stay on ESPN.

 

That Boston bus driver for me was one of the low points of FNF.

Haymon will probably destroy boxing.....................

 

The ESPN deal is big for Haymon. With few exceptions, boxing gets no coverage on ESPN or ESPN2 outside of the weekly FNF. You can expect to see Haymon aligned fighters getting publicity on SportsCenter, PTI, First Take, and the like.

Atlas has already been Haymonized, so he can stay on. It's going to be more and more difficult to develop fighters that are not in the Haymon universe. For instance, a guy like Monroe made a name of himself with Boxcino and really advanced his career. There's just no more smaller outlets to develop a fighter. I don't see UniMas or TruTV cutting it.

I know people will just claim these questions come from "haters", but it's hard to see how Haymon can pay $2 M out of pocket for a card on Spike, while ESPN2 drew solid ratings with just a 50k investment per show. I guess he's hoping a network comes in, like FOX did with UFC, and overpay for rights to cover boxing.

In the short run, I'm excited for better fights. But as I've expressed in the past, I hope fighters outside the realm of Haymon control are allowed to participate.

 

Well he can sign those foreign guys too theoretically, which he has been doing recently.

Lots of foreign guys in the UFC too.

Once you get enough, you start taking it on the road like the UFC has done
