Green caught him because Jones was not only toast, but also complacent. No, Jones was favorite because Danny is **** by comparison. I guess they didn't expect for Jones to be as toast as he was. Most of us didn't. No, Green was the better boxer on the night, which is why he won. Jones was at minimum 5 years past his prime. Of course, but not for the reasons you're giving. :good
u can't have it both ways. before the fight and based on CURRENT form of both fighters, EVERYBODY said rjj was going to embarrass green and green wouldn't land 1 punch in the whole 12 rounds. after the fight, now u want to change your mind and say, oh green won ONLY cause rjj is a **** fighter now. that is HYPOCRISY. and a failure to give credit where due. its the same thing with vic darchinyan. most people said mijares was going to make vic look like an amateur and make him look silly. then after the fight, they say, well mijares just wasn't as good as we thought. that's utter bull****.
What are you on about Buster? How is any of what I said hypocrisy? RJJ was once upon a time an elite boxer. He had incredible speed, reflexes, combinations, footwork, all the qualities that make a great fighter, and more. Danny Green is a robotic B level plodder who does nothing particularly well, but at his ideal weight has good stamina, a sturdy chin, and heart. Green caught Jones at least 5 years past Jones physical best, and IMO, complacent. Green was damn lucky that night IMO. Sorry if I can't give credit to a plodder beating an ATG in his retirement.
i don't care about what your opinion is now after the fight. all the experts with decades of experience were positive that on current form rjj was going to make green look silly. i'd take their opinion over yours every day of the week. so, if someone wants to argue that green won only cause rjj was a **** fighter once in the ring with green is simply not giving credit where due. otherwise where was your prediction that green was going to smash rjj and send him back home battered and bruised? tell us all the thousands of dollars u won betting on green by round 1 ko. if u r so adament that rjj was so **** at the time, u would have cleaned up bigtime yeah? again, u can't have it both ways.
Great, I don't care about yours either. Again, great. I'd probably take their opinion over mine too, generally. My thoughts before the fight were nothing scientific. I felt that if RJJ isn't as shot as what some felt, he should take it. If he is as shot as some say, he'll get starched. The deciding factor in this fight was how bad RJJ had become, nothing more. I respectfully disagree. RJJ was most certainly a **** fighter when in the ring with Green. (By comparison to what he once was). See above. I didn't bet on this fight, as I couldn't tell exactly how much he had lost. Not trying to. Most of us simply misjudged how bad RJJ had become. Put it this way, Green didn't win the fight because of how good he is, rather RJJ lost the fight because of bad he had become.
so all these respected people were of the opinion that rjj was still in very good form before entering the ring. but u say the rjj in the ring vs green was ****. this should be interesting. which part before rjj was knocked down gave u that opinion? was it his cool as ice composure? was it the ease of which he landed his accurate jabs? so while rjj was landing these nice jabs, u were thinking rjj looks terrible huh?
Who are all these respected people that said RJJ was in good form? As far as I remember, everyone knew he was past his best, it was just a matter of how much. It's not that hard to land one on Green. Compared to what he once did, sure.
if rjj was so ****, where r all these other early round ko's that he has suffered? if a fighter with as much lack of skill as green can ko him, surely there would be many better opponents that rjj has faced that should have ko'd him early yeah? u just don't want to give credit where due, admit it.
**** gentleman. I thought I'd see why this thread was still going and now I'm sorry I did. It's too draining to read you blokes duel away. Go back to your respective corners and have another chrissy beer. Neither one of you is going to convince the other they're right.
****, I just watched the vid of that fight, with slow mo, and pauses, and i am starting to change my opinion of that fight. It looks as though jones entered the ring cold, without a warm up. Most fighters have a lather of sweat from a decent warmup, jones didnt. The first knockdown looks legite, and so does the stoppage. Im still not 100 percent convinced, as ive been told otherwise, but it looks as though Green caught him cold. If so, props to green. i think the outcome would have been different if the fight progressed, but it didnt.
before the knock down punch, sox was thinking rjj was going along nicely, but he won't admit he is a liar. he and respected boxing figures were of the opinion rjj was in well enough form to embarrass green and make him look silly. but sox says now, after the fight, that rjj was actually ****. i'm stiil waiting for his expert opinion on how he came to that conclusion after only a minute or two of rjj landing his jab beautifully at will, and looking like his usual slick self, not to mention that green had failed to land anything prior to the knock down?
Up until the point of the knockout, Paul Briggs was showing the superior ringsmanship in his fight with Green.
