In fairness, Kellerman has shown a willingness to call bull**** on certain fighters/decisions. He might be a shade more politically correct than Merchant, but I don't really think he's a huge shill either.
Would you've said that to Larry's face when (at less than 160 pounds) he was the fiercest defensive player in N.Y. high school football, recruited by Oklahoma, the biggest powerhouse in college football?
Indeed. Dont remember the words he used exactly, but Larry was layin' down some truths when he talked to Mathysse in the ring post fight. He asked M. something about is it worth the money to get ripped off like that in his trips to the USA. **This is Exactly how **** went for Sergio Martinez at first too. Sergio beat Cintron twice on the same night just to get a draw?
Larry puts out the best analogy. "The wale is harpooned", "It's up to Mosley to set Forest on fire", etc.
Merchants prety good. That was a great line about the decision. Roy Jones seemed to be unsure. Sometimes, I don't like when he or other announcers try to conduct hard hitting interviews right after the fight. Sometimes the guy just got through a battle most of us don't want any part of - just throw softballs. On the other hand, thats the only time people other than hardcore fans are watching boxers talk.
the problem with speaking his mind is that e gets it wrong most of the time, yet gets hailed every off chance he gets it right
I'm of the opinion that Merchant was EXCEPTIONALLY drunk as the fight began last night. He was great. That quote cannot be said any better. Larry's an old guy that'll rip you a new ******* in public poetically, and that's why he's allowed to say whatever the **** he wants. He's the guy Teddy Atlas could be if he wasn't quite as self-serving and unintelligent. Larry is a poet and a scholar.
