This guy summed some stuff up for me on this situation on another MMA thread I read last week. Pretty good info here... Posted by mizunomike27 "I really like Hershel alot. I've met him before and my dad used to hang out with him in college. My dad said Hershel never acted like a superstar, which he was at the time, but just one of the guys. Apparently one of Herschel's favorite things to do was put on a Jason mask and scare the **** out of people. That being said I can't help but root for the guy. He really is a good person, and at least in his prime was an amazing athlete. He not only is considered one of the best college players of all time, but also ran track during college. After his career in the NFL, he went to the Olympics for bobsled. He nearly went to the Olympics for Tae Kwon Do. I think his involvement in SF is good. For one he's getting MMA exposure to the mainstream sports radio world. I listen to sports radio all of the time. They never have anything good to say about the sport, but several of the local radio guys (one of them was his QB at UGA) have been talking about it for the last week and a half. Also I think it's good that he is getting Srikeforce's name out there. Several journalists have admitted they had no clue what it was. Ultimately it boils down to the fact that he wants to compete and loves the challenge. He's done martial arts for 20 years. He's promoting the brand, and giving all of his winnings to charity. He wants to take it one fight at a time, and is not over hyping himself or saying he plans on becoming one of the best in the world. I think he has a great attitude about MMA. He's not doing it for money or fame, but for the opportunity to compete. Oh and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets put on his back really quickly."
Herschel will bring a lot of attention to Strike Force. He is one of America's greatest athletes ever.
He is one of the greatest college football players ever and also one of the best pro running backs of all time. In addition he was world quality sprinter, a Winter Olympics team member as well as a Black Belt in Judo. He would be in the same category as Jim Thorpe, Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders and Wilt Chamberlain for versatility and elite level status. Michael Jordan was only a one sport star.
