to be fair, i think hearns is getting undermined on this thread. briscoe was VERY VERY good but not great. hearns was best below 160 but still a dynamo at middleweight. not saying i have a decision set but hearns has all the tools to beat briscoe, of that I'm certain. whether or not he does, whether or not it's likely considering briscoe's own stylistic advantages here is the question but hearns CAN'T be dismissed
Briscoe would have been yet another bald menacing middleweight that would have done him in..if james Kinchen could have decked him, and iran Barkley could have ko'ed him..imagine what Briscoe would have done to him.
WOW this 1 could go either way, Hearns could score an early blow out, he could outbox him to a UD, or he could get broken down and ko'd. All these people with sure fire opinions, well if they actually know what they're talking about, then they probably wouldn't bet on this 1
Tommy Hearns would have been yet another all time great fighter that would have outboxed Briscoe...if Luis Vinales, Joe Shaw and Vicente Rondon could have decisioned him...imagine what Hearns would have done to him (thank God for boxrec.com :hat)
Well theoretically the amount of rounds could be an issue but not if Hearns knocks him out early or is completely in control of the fight. It's got to be a close run fight for 15 rounds to be an issue. Briscoe could get it done in 12 or 15. It really depends how it unfolds Theoretically Briscoe's style could be bad for Hearns, but theoretically Duran's style is a problem for Hearns and we all saw what happened there Without seeing those fights and knowing if their decision was just I'd decline to comment, it might also be those men were less vulnerable inside than Hearns.
it's a wise position and the post is only half serious. however, briscoe's record against elite opposition is pretty weak: he failed to get the better of monzon, valdez or hagler (though he was WAY past best by then). if memory serves, briscoe did snag a draw with monzon on his home turf which says quite a bit though
Briscoe said Monzon improved after their first fight. I haven't seen Monzon-Briscoe 1, I do wonder whether Briscoe got a fair shake of the dice on the opposition's soil. Bad decisions aren't new in boxing and we really don't know how many of those decisions were right and wrong without looking closer I like Briscoe's skillset on film too, he isn't an elite, but he could trouble elite's and at least push them. The thing is Hearns could dominate very good boxers himself
I don't know Garrus...but I do know that theres a badass vid of the best of BB and he left a lot of guys on their asses.
