yeah i agree that's very true,
the first big shot was a killer, similar to the cuevas right, duran did well to get up but as you say the damage was done and he was probably in a haze from that moment on.

Asking Hearns to bomb Duran out like that every time is a very tall order. I do feel he would win just about every time, but perhaps not quite as devastatingly as that. Not every time.

But Yeah, physically it was a bit of a mismatch, so I would imagine Hearns wins 99% of the time.

They both fought at MW and up, too.

Welter is obviously the bottom floor (although it was still heavier than peak for Duran) being the lightest Hearns ever was.

I'd also go with option 3.

Option 1 is too dicey, and when will he be able to get inside? Hoping for Hearns to fall short then counter requires a bit of a leap of faith, since Hearns was an excellent boxer and would not repeatedly keep overextending himself. He'd probably take a half-step forward and get his range before too long, and Duran would be in trouble.

Option 2 is also a big risk, and as great a chin as Duran had, we know Tommy could shatter it. Marv could take that risk because he was a physically bigger man than Duran and took a better shot. I don't think Duran could afford to fight that type of fight against Hearns.

No hearns wouldn't duplicate that every time or win every time. People make a big deal about this fight like this is always how it would go. It wouldn't. Hearns would win some sure.. but so would duran. this is imo at hearns best weight and at one of Duran's worst. Duran was past his best while Hearns was prime. How people factor that in is beyond me sometimes

Hearns had more power than Hagler,Leonard said so. It's just that in the Hagler Hearns encounter,Hagler could obsorb Hearns shots, but Hearns was worn down by Hagler's,and the broken hand didn't help either.

Im sorry this just isnt a good match for Duran....I dont think he could ever beat Hearns....at any weight what Duran was good at it just doesn't work against Tommy....

Hearns demolishes Duran every time. Quickly and easily!

Well at WW & Duran peak it could be a different story. But heavier, or both at whatever weight they wanted...No contest. hearns was just too big/long & strong.

Same thing could be said about Barkley and yet Duran beat him. Like I said I think if they fought 5 times Duran wins once maybe twice.

I think the legendary Montreal Duran, fierce and fearless, might have mauled and beaten the spindly 145 pound Hearns that Leonard beat. Tommy had shitty balance and I think became timid after Leonard roughed him up a bit. Roberto was pretty unstoppable in that first Leonard fight; I could see him beating Hearns. It would be (ha ha) a tall order though, because we saw the bomb Hearns landed on the shorter Cuevas (who was no Duran).
