I have Joe Louis at number 2 at Heavyweight based on dominance, and I think he is one of the greatest ever.

But Ali resume shits on Joe Louis resume, and anyone thats says different is just hating, no Heavyweight has better wins than Frazier, Liston and Foreman and two of them wins were after his exile.

I did'nt say that what I said was that beating them 3 fighters alone is better than anything that Louis did, which it is

I have Ali at #8 on my all-time P4P list and #1 on my Heavyweight list.

Take Ali out and Archie Moore would crack my top 10 ever - as far as the Heavyweights, I'd move Joe Louis to #1.

There are two legitimate schools of thought on the issue...All this talk of one guys record shits on the other is pretty ridiculous, they are pretty closely matched and though personally I rank Ali higher, I wont argue with someone who feels Louis deserves the top spot at heavy.

For Joe to have an unbeaten run at the top like that and do it in such devastating fashion is very impressive. Sure he faced a few bums here and there but you are going to when you defend your title 25 times...sometimes 7 times in a single year.
He also beat a hell of a lot of good fighters and often brutally taking them out with unexpected ease.

Again two legitimate schools of thought...Joe's quantity over Ali's quality...And it must be said there was certainly some quality in Joe's defences and not always 100% of the time in Ali's.

Ali is the most romanticized fighter of alltime, so its pretty hard convincing people to open their minds and consider other opinions when talking about him.

    Are you ******ed?

14 of Louis defenses of his title was during WW2

Just like anyone placing Louis above Ali, forgetting the effect that the Vietnam War had on Ali's record is an idiot.

And when you throw in as well some smuck who claims WW2's effect on Louis(with 14 defenses) was comparable to Ali's suspension(due to his stance on the Vietnam War), then you realise you are dealing with someone who is a contender for dumbest poster on ESB.

No way! Look at Louis' resume and Ali's. Ali has the better top wins in Frazier and Foreman - Liston is argueable I disagree - but Louis has the better overall depth which makes up for this. Add to that Louis record defences, even better longevity and that he wasn't beaten for 14 years, that he only was beaten by other greats, unlike Ali, and that he has far less controversial fights, actually exactly one Walcott I, where Ali has quite a few disputed decisions going his way. Louis when beeing washed up still beat top contenders like Lee Savold while Ali got beaten by Berbick, who was in a similar class. Sorry but saying Ali's wins over Frazier, Foreman and Liston is laughable and just shows your knowledge of Louis is pretty thin.

You do realise the US entered the world war in 1941? You do realise Louis had exactly one fight between 1942 and 1946 which was against a 3-3 fighter in a fight that was scheduled for 4 rounds and actually was an exhibition for the US troops? You do realise that, right?

This post just proves you are a boxrec warrior. :good

How is the quality of Ali's record so much better than Louis' that wins over three fighters **** on everything Louis did? Like I said I can see Ali beeing ranked number one, I can also see Louis ranked number one but I can't see either one "shitting" on the career of the other. Saying that is laughable.

I did'nt say his career I said it **** on his resume (fighters he beat) and it does, that not me putting Joe Louis down, Joe Louis is one of my favourite fighters but I ain't pretending like he fought in a golen era, What impresse's me is his dominance and performance's, the best fighters he fought were when his was past his peak (Marciano, Walcott and Charles that was a golden era).

Ah, you are one of those. The 30s weren't any worse than the 40s or 50s. In terms of depth I think it was even better. Ali's resume does certainly not **** on Louis'.
