I've noticed just how much they've been bad mouthing Canelo over the years for the fight, long before David became Canelo's mandatory. I think that is playing a role in why Canelo refuses to fight David as he doesn't want to give him the money fight. Doing so would be to reward them for their behavior. Lying about the $55 million contract also did no favors for Team Benavidez. When looking at why Canelo isn't fighting Benavidez from a ring standpoint....it makes no sense for him to duck someone who he can clearly beat, but from a business standpoint it makes a lot of sense. There could also be money reasons why the fight ain't happening, but I'm starting to wonder if the main reason why it isn't happening is because Canelo is simply sick and tired of them badgering him for the fight. It certainly ain't doing them any favors. Despite the mandatory thing....look, Canelo's in the driver seat. He's the cash cow/face of boxing. The organizations aren't going to hold him to fight Benavidez if he still refuses because they know if he leaves, there goes millions of dollars they could've made off him. With Canelo now in the declining phase of his career these organizations are going to want to get as much money out of him as they can before he retires. All of this is to say Team Benavidez has screwed themselves here by being needy. Perhaps if they weren't and were humble about it (i.e. not badgering the guy in public calling him a coward), maybe Canelo would've fought him a while back? Benavidez Sr was quite pissed when he learned Berlanga or Munguia could be the next opponent for Canelo. IIRC he slammed them saying David earned the shot against Canelo while they didn't. Well, I think that is true, but on the other hand they didn't trash talked Canelo for the fight either and again, Canelo calls the shots. Benavidez Sr should've thought about this before admonishing Canelo. The lesson learned here? It pays to not be needy/an *******.
Not fighting a guy because his dad was talking smack? That's one of the dumbest things ever. How is accepting 5m and no PPV being greedy. I'm pretty sure its the opposite. This content is protected

All I hear are more excuses for why Canelo hasn’t fought the number 1 contender in his division. He has instead faced a 40 year old middleweight, an inactive super welterweight, a solid 168 pounder, and now the worst cherry picker in boxing. You can’t make this s*** up.
Team Benavidez has actually been very polite and respectful of Canelo's abilities. All they've done is demand a fight with someone they consider to be a legend. ... But now they should really start verbally abusing and humiliating him.
