I'm shocked to see that people don't like them. For me, they play a big part in making a PPV fight seem like the most important thing in the world. Both men fighting for the pride of their countries. A big fight doesn't feel the same without the hype. It's like Michael Buffer's "Let's get ready to rumbleeeee!". It turns a fight from a fight into a spectacle. Look at the Superbowl. It's just another game of American football, isn't it? But throw in the national anthems, half time shows and all the rest and it becomes a must see event. WrestleMania too. It's a few wrestling matches no different from the rest of the year, but when you stick the celebrities, pyro and, yes, national anthem in there, it becomes something bigger and more important. Big fights need something to make them stand out and that's what an anthem does. The crowd love it, so it makes the atmosphere better, anyway. Anyway, I love listening to the anthems. Every now and then I stick Pacquiao/JMM II on, just to listen to the three anthems. Great stuff.
The British anthem is rousing, especially when they are singing in unison and drowning out the person who his singing it.
hate the anthems b4 a fight dont really see the point. its 2 fighters not a nation going to war. Plus i hate the way the yanks go really OTT with all these no marks R$B singers that warble all the way through. I dont like the song anyway bit too up its own arse (so ours by the way)
nahgod save the queen is f**** dirge it sounds good once every few years like at an england semi final at a world cup or summat but most of the time its crap
look at the world cup final, look at the champions league final. we don't want distractions and half time shows and all the razz-ma-tazz. we just want the big game and that's it. nothing fancy and over the top. just because we don't have girls aloud singing at half time and billions of dancers doesn't make it less of an event or any less important. let the sport entertain us, nuts to all that other garbage. it's a cultural thing.
Is any other service member here???? I have been in the Army Reserves half of my life. 17 years to be precise. I love listening to my Puerto Rico anthem. But when I hear the American anthem my heart pumps faster and I can feel that adrenaline rush. It's simbolized everything we work for. Everything we swear to defend. It's very heard to explain.
Thats fair enough maybe because your a servicemen the national anthem of your country means more to u than an ordinary citizen. That is not being disrespectful to the countless people who aren't in the services and are very nationalistic.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION "Beloved country, Pearl of the Orient, The heart's fervor, In your chest is ever alive. Chosen Land, You are the cradle of the brave, To the conquerors, You shall never surrender. Through the seas and mountains, Through the air and your blue sky, There is splendor in the poem and song of beloved freedom. The sparkle of your flag Is shining victory. Its stars and sun will never dim. Land of glory, the sun of our affections, Life is heaven in your arms; When someone oppresses you, it is our pleasure To die for you." WRONG!!!! Watch this video...the single greatest version of the Star Spangled Banner, sung by not only an r&b singer...but the GREATEST singer ever. [yt]QRvVzaQ6i8A[/yt] Fantastic!!! Damn Marvin Gaye was the absolute ****ing man!!!!
And while we are at it....lets watch Whitney Houston's (another r&b singer) tremendous, but more traditional version. [yt]Q5GSxSmYvME[/yt] Fact is, if anyone who sings it badly (r&b singer, rock singer, celebrity, etc.) it mars it. Its not an easy song to sing in the slightest bit. (noone can touch Marvin's version tho....still gives me goosebumps when the crowd starts clapping along...just phenominal!!)
the national anthems U.S. and MEx. in particular hype me up the same way a ring entrance does. The vibes just gets u going sometimes but some people can ruin them like the people who sang the national anthem right after 911 at the Vargas vs Shibata Flores fight.
