Jrs a beast at middleweight. I was impressed last night,
great chin as well. I believe Martinez has the power to
hurt Jr. , not a one punch ko like williams though.
At 168the guys like Bika, Froch, Abraham, could give
him hell, well see how pavlik does next fight. Id
say hes the real deal, my only criticisms are he usually
has a weight advantage, and I wanna hear that drug result.
Hes got the goods though. I think Martinez beats him.
Thoughts on that? If Jr weighs 180 on fight night
Martinez might not be able to stop him.

I'm starting to see a bit of the old man (Chavez sr) in his style.

I was not a fan back then BUT...since he joined Roach, he seems to have found his style, is very solid and interesting. I must admit, I'm starting to be a fan now. Good chin, good body punching, all out action. If you would have told me 2 years ago: Martinez vs Chavez, I would have start laughing but now...if Martinez fight the way he did against Macklin, I have no choice but to give the edge to Chavez.

Decent fighter better than most think.

    But still far from elite.

Zbik practically is, and it's not like Rubio or Lee are A-level fighters. Turbotime's statement is accurate.

Ok, name another middleweight that has a better resume than Jr.

He's fought...molina, Vanda, Duddy, manfredo, Rubio, lee, Zbik

I'd agree none are A level, nor close, but to classify them as cans is ridiculous.

He has a better resume than a lot of middleweights simply because up until this summer, most top 10 middleweights were not fighting anyone of any value whatsoever. This however doesn't mean Zbik or Manfredo were somehow high quality opponents. The Molina fights took place ages ago well below middleweight when Molina had even less experience than Chavez (and this doesn't even get into the fact that Chavez should have gone 0-1-1 in those two fights).
No Zbik is legitimately bad. Lost to Della Rossa and Spada before the close Chavez fight and was blasted out by Sturm after.

Fair enough man. I do think we have a different definition of cans though.

Eh, they are journeyman level guys. I'm still waiting on Chavez to beat one of the top rated guys. Even Macklin gave Sturm and Martinez a go. Lee isn't very good, neither is Zbik.

Amazing how impressive KOs against fringe guys get people so hyped up.

 Martinez' win over Pavlik and Williams is better than Junior's entire resume dude.

i used to not think much of him 2 or 3 years ago

but mad respect for him now. there were times he was physically grimacing because of these cramps in between rounds, and went out and took care of business not to have to deal with that another 5 or rounds. he seems like he is always improving . his chin is solid and he throws great punches and combos...and seems to be well conditioned
