He beats everyone at that weight especially Crawford who will be turning 34 by the time they fight, Spence is obviously done, Pacquiao is almost 43 years old.
Welterweight is his to rule. Clearly has power but also fights smart with true effective aggression. I liked how he responded in the second round after he ate five really good punches. Showed he has a really solid chin. He was aware enough to know he had to immediately grab to buy time. Once space was available his warrior instinct took over and he started throwing bombs. Reminds me of Morales when he takes punches and immediately fires back. Always makes for great action and excitement. Ortiz power will come out of those exchanges the winner in most cases. He’s just starting get into his groove while all the main guys at 147 just get older. The longer they take to fight Vergil Ortiz, the lesser chance they have of surviving his fists.
I think he's the goods and is ready to be let off the leash .kids still learning but I'd say he's ready for the big boys...I'd like to see him in with porter next... And I think he beats Ennis whose good but outta the two prospects I'm with Ortiz all the way if they ever fight
Like him. Pleasing style and such powerful jabs are rare, also liked how he celebrated after the win, looked calm and composed.
Amateur pedigree means nothing. He unified 140 and then took Jeff Horns soul and belt who was fresh off a win against Pacquiao in his first fight at 147 and walked through Kell Brook easily. Get your head out of your ass
Jeff Horn was gifted a victory. And the Pac fight was the last time he was able to drain down to 147 and still be effective. Not saying he would have beat Crawford, but his durability took a hit from the final drain. That's why he went up to middleweight immediately after. Bud didn't walk through Shell Broken. He arguably lost the first 3 rounds. And Shell was badly hurt by a jab. Crawford fought the shell of the shell of Shell Broken.
Ortiz took like 8 flush shot including an elbow with full leverage from kavaluiskas. He stood there and actually took control of the last seconds of round 2. Ortiz is all bad for crawford. Look how hard the Jose Benavides fight was for crawford. Ortiz Has similar style but with mobility and more power
I think this was the kind of fight where Ortiz learned a lot and gained the kind of championship experience needed to fight the elite in the division. Him and Bud would be a good fight, or maybe he should get Spence when he 's healed. That'd be a quicker fight
He hasnt gained championship experience yet imo. He only faced adversity against a solid opponent who can crack. Hes not ready for the big dawgs at 147 yet. He still needs seasoning.
Vergil works behind the jab well. Developes his offense behind the jab. Bud will go lefty, taking the jab away. Countering the jab with the right hook. If Vergil can adapt then we'll have a very interesting fight. If not, Bud picks him apart.
I feel like he's someone who wouldn't match up well against more technically savvy fighters. He reminds me a bit of early 20s Canelo.
