The guy is a decent fighter. Always look in good condition. Hasn't done anything important yet. Has fought tomato cans and journeymen. Questionable defense and chin. A good counterpuncher boxer could take him to deep waters. He is fast, but not even close to a 130lbs Hector Camacho. Has a lot of boxing mileage so I don't think he will get much better than he is now. He is quite muscular so I am not sore how long he will be able to make 126lbs. His fan think he is the second coming of Jesuschrist, but they always taking about a fight with Juanma, who hasn't even fight at 126lbs yet. I always ask the same question. WHY NOT TRY TO FIGHT ANY OTHER OF THE 126LBS CHAMPIONS INSTEAD OF PAYING SO MUCH ATTENTION TO FIGHTERS @ 122LBS?????
"A KO waiting to happen". You gotta love that line, because the people that say it just throw it out there and then when and if the fighter does EVENTUALLY get KO'd, they'll say they were right and "I told you so". Even if it happens after a decade. :nut
I would like to see Teddy Atlas train him. I think he has potential to be a top ten p4p figher withink 1-2 years if he keeps fighting regularly.
Glass Jawed joke. Brutal KO waiting to happen when he steps it up. That is really all that needs to be said.
Yeah, he's gonna get starched once he starts fighting decent comp. If he's getting sent to the canvas by some of the scrubs he's fighting, then top level guys are really gonna take advantage of his shaky whiskers.
Now you're smoking crack.... Mtagwa is a journeyman...DID YOU SEE HIS PUNCHES? they were wild and SLOW. Gamboa from the Al Seeger fight would finish Mtagwa in less than 5 rounds.
Gamboa has all the talent in the world but relies too much on reflexes and power, and though he improved his defense in his last two fights, I think a good, experienced professional trainer is still very much needed. He's short handed and instead of using smart movement, he just jumps in to bang it out. He should use both the speed and movement a lot smarter, like the way Tyson got cut the ring to land his bombs. He just doesn't seem to fight smart, and I think that's mainly because no trainer is uring him to do it the pro way, which is a big mistake. He'll produce some excellent fights and knockouts and I'm sure he'll improve with experience, but if he doesn't change his style, I just can favor him vs. JuanMa or Chris John.
Co-sign, the trainer he's been having hasn't done nothing to improve his defense at all. he's still the same (come-forward-with-low-hands) type of fighter. Roach or Roger May would remodel this guy.
... Gamboa finally caved in a few fights ago on the back of all those KD's in successive fights. He tweaked his style and the results have been shaky for his potency fighting out of a more traditional set. He's only effective when he drops his hands and starts ripping shots - but he has holes the size of the Grand Canyon when he's doing that. He seems naked and blind when he's more classic though.. Looks like he's trying to learn how to walk all over again.. I don't know.. He looked slightly better, slightly more fluid than I thought he would the last time out.. Even took a squared shot or two and stayed on his feet.. But he's still a walking bullseye at this point.
Gamboa was trying to throw the lead left hook like Money Maybe last fight. Looked like **** though. Just goes to show how amazingly hard it is to throw that shot like RJJ and Mayweather.
He is an exciting fighter and makes for fan friendly bouts, but he continues to keep his hands too low. He has been doing it for so long that I don't know if its a habit he can break. Be sure it will break him one day though.
He has to start making big fights already because he is a bit old when he strated professional boxing especially at the lower division. He is already 27, 28 in two months time, his time frame to be an ATG is somewhat limited. Otherwise, his career might follow Guzman's path.
