Floyd has fought a good list of champions but almost always when they were past it or smaller than he was. He NEVER had to adapt to fighting greats that were his own size or bigger that were close to being prime. Could you imagine Floyd adapting to getting outboxed on the outside by Tommy Hearns(which he would have been), and then coming inside to stop Tommy. Sorry my man. No way no how. And btw, I cant stand Leonard who was one of the 3 greatest welters ever which is something that cannot be said for Floyd.

 

Yes srl fought a dumb fight the first time against duran. Pbf wouldnt make that mistake and will always fight his fight not trying to impress anyone or get caught up in mind games like srl did.

He didnt fight a dumb fight against Duran in their 1st. He fought flatfooted regurlarly early on his career. People forget that. And in the 2nd he made the adjustment, Duran wasnt up for it and Leonard won. It gets no simpler. And Floyd had some boneheaded performances as hell. His performance in Maidana 1 was idiotic.

 

Pbf was past his prime and got cut for the first time very early on in that first fight with Maidana. The cut really effected him after he got over that he went to work and swept the second half of yhe fight. Yes srl fought dumb he didnt fight to his strengths duran had trouble with movers he should have employed that from the opening round but instead he let durans trash talk and the fact that duran was the smaller man lure him into a brawl. Thats not smart and pbf wouldnt have done that.

 

Up to that point Duran beat the **** out of Ken Buchanan the best mover he had fought up to that point. There was no blueprint at that time on how to beat Duran. Duran had problems with movers that were bigger than him. Leonard adapted and won in the 2nd. He knew he could never outslug Duran so he adapted. As far as Mayweather is concerned, a cut affected him that much against Maidana? And so what Floyd was past his best. Maidana, as tough as he was, was a limited brawler that was INFERIOR to Mayweather.

Yes being cut and past your prime can effect your performance. You're leaving out one important thing though pbf still won despite adversity and won the rematch going away as well.

 

DeJesus was not a mover. He caught Duran on a bad night and Duran beat the **** out of him twice afterwards. If Maidana weren't so inferior to Floyd you would be right about that point, but there is a chasm between them. And you know that.

 

Yes but being past your prime you can lose to lesser fighters kirkland laing ring a bell? And he was much more inferior than Maidana was as a fighter.
