Three weeks in which Fitzsimmons and Corbett pushed back the younger generation

I haven't, I base my opinion on what I have read,both men were involved in fixed fights during their careers.Also how MCoy goes from winning the middle weight title then, a couple of months later, he is a stand out heavyweight is beyond me.His last three fights, before facing Corbett ,were against men inside the middle weight limit.

Maher was the gatekeeper and beat Godfrey, Craig, CC Smith, Klondike, Butler etc, Choynski beat Wilson, Corbett drew with Jackson, Jeff beat Arnstrong and Griffin(I dont count the old Jackson)
But BTW when did Sharkey ko Ed Martin?

 

Rightly or wrongly, Kid McCoy was regarded as a first teir heavyweight contender.

Not much has to change for him to fight Jeffries for the title.

To be honest with you, I think that the first year of Jeffries title reign and those presceeding it came at something of a natural lull in the coloured heavyweight division.

When Jeffries fought Fitzsimmons for the title, Frank Childs and Bob Armstrong probably were the two best black heavyweights around. Martin dosn't really hit his stride untill around the time of the Gus Ruhlin fight.
