Yeah even though Thurman will control Porter less, I feel like he's going to catch Porter coming in and hurt him at some point. The way he landed bombs against JSK, Chaves, and Collazo in exchanges ultimately led to his victory despite the adversity, and Shawn is hittable. The sparring highlights showed as much, Thurman landed some nasty counters (particularly the right uppercut) early on despite Shawn being fresher.
Swarmer vs Boxer-Puncher... I think styles would favor Thurman, and I am not the biggest Thurman fan.
At this point I don't consider Thurman a Boxer-Puncher anymore, he's a hyper defensive usually retreating counter puncher.
I found Thurman's comments on shortening his punches to respond to Porter's smothering interesting here. [YT]Aigti6LycYw[/YT]
I have always been under the belief that Porter is something of a wide puncher. If Keith keeps those shots straight he's got this one won.
I might agree, but Keith seems to have a do or die attitude. We've seen him faced with adversity many times and he has overcome.
Good video! My initial pick is Porter by decision and remains so. I hope Thurman pulls it off though.
Thanks! I think if Porter wins it would be by decision. This is ultimately how I see it. Thurman said he's not looking to replicate the Brook fight and actually said explicitly he'd use short punches as he comes in. The sparring highlights I included seem to point to that.
