I guess the 1st Bonecrusher fight where Witherspoon won 12-0 handing out a terrible beating to Bonecrusher never happened either ?

Or are we choosing the narrative again depending on who you like ? To pit the worst version of Witherspoon against Wilder ?

I guess Wilder vs Parker is relevant to this discussion then since you don't care about pitting the best versions of each fighter against eachother.

Bonecrusher didn't beat the worst version of Witherspoon. He beat the crap out of a typical mid 80s version. Peak Witherspoon is just a figment of this forum's imagination.

222 pound in shape Witherspoon handled Bonecrusher easily.

Compared to a 233 pound out of shape Witherspoon who fought Bonecrusher the 2nd time.

As I said if you don't want to pit the best versions of each fighter against eachother then this conversation is a waste of time.

Smith peaked in 86 and early 87. Witherspoon was lighter than for his previous fight against Bruno, which was probably his second best win ever, but you knew that already and erased it.

Witherspoon was out of shape vs Bruno aswell the two things don't have to be mutually exclusive.

The only difference Witherspoon was mentally not prepared to fight vs Bonecrusher with all the shenanigans going on with Don King at the time.

I get the feeling that this would like Ortiz vs Wilder where Tim is winning until he isn’t.

Yeah peak Witherspoon is kinda of a lesser Tyson myth, he blew hot and cold thats who he was. Deontay definitely will get a chance to ko him

That's the feeling I get as well but I'm not entirely sure either because Tim is one of the tougher match-ups from 80s for Deontay imo, his cross-guard weakens Wilder's jab and right hand a lot. You need a good left hand and combination-punching to land clean on him, and Deontay has neither. But I just feel like his athleticism and determination will give him a chance at some point, and that's all he needs.

Best for best it's a clear win for Witherspoon IMO, but this would take care in the real world for obvious reasons.
