Tito Trinidad vs Canelo Alvarez who wins

Trinidad beats him handily. He's better in most areas of boxing. Canelo doesn't have the footwork like Hopkins and DLH to neutralize Tito's offense, nor does he have the solid stationary high guard defense at closer range like Wright.

Canelo is just a good fighter in a weak era. His popularity exceeds his actual ability, which is respectable but hardly special. At 154, he would lose to Vargas and Trinidad, and would have a tough enough time against Reid.

 

Ill take Canelo. It wasn't Tito's real weight class. He struggled with Reid and Vargas there and Canelo was better than both (yes i said he was better than Vargas) and also had he poise to not be derailed from his gameplan, which is really how Tito best both of them. It would be close though like Canelo's fights with Trout and Lara.

 

If he is so ordinary, then why does Mayweather admit that he has exceptional skills? Mayweather doesn't say that about all his opponents. He didn't even say that about Castillo who actually beat him or about Maidana and De La Joya who gave him a run for his money. He did say something similar about Cotto. So he is selective in whom he commends for having boxing skills.

I take Mayweather's words with a grain of salt. Actually I do with many fighters, it's often just ego-driven. James Toney always said Mike McCallum was his best opponent. Naturally he picks the guy whom he went 2-0-1 against, and not RJJ who beat him by a wide margin.

Mayweather arguably lost to Castillo the first time, and downplays it and talked how Augustus gave him the his toughest fight.

Yeah, Floyd got a bloody nose against Augustus. He also lost maybe 1 round and beat the crap out of him.

I just don't see this big deal about Canelo. He's a good fighter, boxing is filled with good fighters. What makes him better than a decent titlist? He has decent power, nice combos and counterpunching, respectable defense. His movement is plodding and he has to really pace himself because he's not blessed with the best gas tank.

I'm trying to understand what people see in him that makes him a standout who's better than a decent title-holder.

Actually, when I first saw Canelo fight I asked myself that same question. What exactly is it that is exceptional about this dude that Mexicans keep raving about. But since that time he has markedly improved both defensively and offensively to the point where I think that he is above average as a boxer and does pose a threat to Triple G.

Floyd looked extremely more frustrated against Augustus than he did against Castillo. Maybe because of the clowning dancing antics that Augustus deployed and were often successful in foiling Mayweather's intended combos. Also that mocking, perpetual, clownish grin Augustus wore which seemed to indicate that the opponent was a powder-puff puncher. I mean, if you land what you consider a devastating shot and the opponent responds by smiling contentedly and doing some Mambo dance steps, or swaying back and forth mockingly like a pendulum from the waist up, that can definitely tend to discombobulate a fighter's self confidence.

Your opinion souds pretty misguided as Canelo has done nothing to prove he's even better than Vargas. He certainly didn't have a better skill level than Vargas.

He doesn't bring anything to table to beat Trinidad. Movement and angles were the key to beat Tito.

A stationary, not difficult to hit midget like Canelo would get eaten alive by Tito.

 

Canelo is neither stationary nor Easy to hit. He uses subtleties which allow him to finish his fights almost unscathed. Canelo and Vargas had similar skill sets but Vargas was way more vulnerable.

 

You do not know much about boxing.Tito destroyed Reid and Vargas.
Tito does everything better than Canelo.

 

In fact, I would pick Vargas to beat Canelo.
