Trinidad would always be dangerous, and one punch could end it, but he isn't on the skill level of Hearns, who will land first and more often, finishing the fight by the middle rounds.
Yes Trinidad would always be dangerous. As huge Hearns fan I have to say that one of the things that made Tommy so exciting is that against quality opposition he could not only win at any moment, he could also LOSE at any moment!
Hearns KO7 or Tito KO5. The Hearns stoppage is more likely, but Tito stopping him is more likely than he's being given credit for. Probably 70-30 Hearns.
9 out of 10 times Hearns by KO or Savage TKO. Maybe one out of 10 Tito by KO. I like Tito allot , but Hearns is all wrong for him, range, speed, height, power in both hands. It's just a bad matchup all around for Tito. Tito doesn't have the speed or skill of Leonard, the strength or chin of Hagler (also Middle) or even boxing skills, but Hagler didn't come to box that night. Tommy destroyed guys like Cuevas, Duran, Roldan, and outboxed Benitez. Tito has a punchers chance that's why maybe he gets lucky every 10 fights maybe.
I think you're underrating the WW Tito here. There weren't more than a handful of boxers in history that could beat Hearns on paper, but you didn't beat him on paper. Tito hits hard enough, had a good enough chin at the weight, and can brawl enough to make it a tough fight while it lasted and be a live dog. It's easy to forgot that by the time the De la Hoya fight happened, Tito had already had a title for 5 years and won it when he was 20. I'll stick with my original odds of Hearns 70-30.
Hearns could not handle pressure fighters as well as he handled boxers. Tito has the better chin. Once he clipped Hearns - it would be all over.
Hearns wasn't THAT chinny at 147. It was only when he started getting clipped by middleweights that he started having problems.
Im with u. I dont think it would be as lopsided as people think. Felix never lost at 147, I dont think. He got ko'd by Bernard but that was like @ 158 or 159. I thinks it would have been a killer fight and Id go with The Hitman
Disagree, he only lost at welter to Leonard, he didn't have probs with pressure fighter till Hagler and later Barclay (Hearns best days were past by then), both strong Middles barclay maybe more so in some ways. He Beat Schuler, Medal, Roldan, Andries and Dewitt at middle after the hagler loss before losing to Barclay 3 years after Hagler, all tough middles. Also disagree that Tito had a better chin, Tito was a slow starter, and Tommy would exploit that (Tito also never fought anyone with Tommy's power). If it took Leonard 13 rds to get to Tommy, Tito wouldn't 9 out of 10 times. He doesn't have the hand or foot speed, or the tactical skill Leonard did. Most Tommy fans believe he was best at 154, before he moved to challenge Hagler. There's a reason Leonard didn't remath him till 8 years later also All good
