A fair and just knockout, hopefully...one that Kovalev had earned.

 

The last left hook by Kovalev 8n the penultimate round hurt Pascal. He was still on wobbly legs at the start of the eighth. He is very tough but if Kovalev was allowed to tee off on the side of his head any more times it could have been very serious. I wouldn't be surprised if Pascal isn't the same fighter after this fight. It was a good stoppage unless you hate Pascal and want him to be harmed.

 

Because boxing isn't your bag. I pity the fool i.e. you.

 

So he couldn't have already sustained a hematoma up to that point in the fight? Tell us more mr. science. You act like if it would've went on it would've been a guaranteed death sentence and I'm telling you that he already could've sustained brain damage. People keep bringing up "my" watching pleasure. So, you don't want to see knockouts? What about when a guy gets caught early in a fight and hasn't sustained any cumulative punishment but he gets caught with that one hard punch and the back of his head bounces off the canvas...what then? You gonna tell me that that can't have serious implications? Why not make them wear Nerf helmets?

 

Actually, I've lived and breathed boxing for almost 35 years. Box every week. Train all the time. You're probably hooked on ring dings and high fructose corn syrup.

Of course he has likely sustained brain damage already. That is
boxing. But to make him go in while he is clearly unable to defend
anymore, just to get your proper KO, is just wrong. And that does
come down to willingly and knowingly letting a guy suffer extra and
possibly sustain very serious brain damage. If Pascal was still all
there, fine.But clearly he was not. Did it look different to you? Did
you see the replays? Or were you ringside?

Of course I enjoy seeing knockouts, but I like to see them in a fight
where one of the guys is not a spaced out heavy bag that has little
clue to where he is.

Bottom line is, it is the duty of the referee to stop a fight when a
fighter cannot defend himself anymore, and the way I see it, Pascal
could not.

 

If you're ever in the ring taking a beating like Pascal was tonight, I hope a ref stops it so you can make it back home to see your loved ones.
Would you really want them wiping your ass and bathing you for the rest of your life?

 

He gathered himself and had his hands up in the final sequence. Kovalev was denied his trade when the ref jumped in. He earned the right to put Pascal on his ass.

So true. Pretty sure the ref was a French pastry chef of sorts. A nancy boy for sure.

 

Bad stoppage. Pascal had Kovalev right where he wanted him. Pascal was playing possum giving the pression that he was defenseless. Getting ready to drop the hammer on Kovalev when he rushes in for the kill.
