Honestly ? You thought it would be that easy? Welcome to the real world pal. Guess what, everyone thinks they are fast, everyone thinks they can punch hard, everyone thinks they will never quit- but fatigue makes cowards of all of us! Your brush with reality is the best thing thatcoukdever happen to you! You do seem to be romantasising everything too much- get real and work harder to correct your technique.
Haha yeah, i guess my entrance to the real world was a tad too late. Romantasising? Do you mean my post? Yup, haha i thought so too, but my purpose of writing this is to share with others and also, i want to take a look at this again maybe after ( 2 yrs? ) to remind myself vividly what happened this very day.
Very similar thing happened the other day been doing light sparring a bit and stepping up my training as i want to fight sometime early next year. Went in with some guys at my level was doing pretty well against one of the taller longer lads but still not getting beaten up. Then i was in with this pressure style fighter i throw a 1-2 step back drop my left cos im knackered he hits me with a right im a bti shaken but ok but my left stays low he hits me with about 3 big shots one of which took a decent chunk of lip with it before i realised that i was going to be on the ground if i didnt put my hands up. Took a round out went back in and was much better although my mates all laughed at me in the pub after with my bleeding lip. Great experience now when im shadow boxing/bag work im thinking alot more about my form rather than throwing what look impressive but are actually impractical shots. Just got back from holiday so getting back into it. Trainer reckons im not far off a fight just need alot of sparring experience to get used to taking shots and keeping my form under fire and of course to improve my technique and stamina. Good luck with your training mate and keep at it
Thanks man, and nice to hear from you too. I guess though these experiences are sort of depressing, they are great times for us to learn too Another reason why i probably assumed getting in the ring and knocking people out was so easy was because of excessively watching Mike Tyson's highlights i guess He made it look so easy. Putting the pressure, slip slip weave, haha.
For sure i had a mate round yesterday for some light sparring since i got back from holiday on thursday and trying to get back into it. Was making so many more mistakes than i was before i went away whcih was driving me mental. But need things like to happen to make sure i dont stay at one level and keep trying to improve. Yeah bobbing and weaving then landing a quality shot look easy on a screen. another story in the ring.
Try building up a lot more stamina, listen to your coach he has some valid points, you definatly need to throw alot of straights for your fight as they are the main scoring shots, and wild swings dont score in amateur so their not going to be doing you any good, and they will be using your stamina
Begin to take things more seriously. Welcome criticism and recognise your flaws. Only you can change these things - no one else. ' The key to changeĀ is to let go of fear '
well bro it seems like you've got to that point where you are in or you are out. You can continue to be 'that guy who boxes' and stay casual, but you should get used to seeing other hard-working blokes pass you; or you could knuckle down, do your 2hours a day 6 days a week and suffer for a long long time before you'll ever recognize any sign of improvement. But that's boxing for you, its ****ing tough. And you will improve, you just might not know it. And I'm not saying this from the standpoint of a guy who is way past that point and is patronizing you, I'm a guy who is right in there every god-damn day. And BTW having heart never feels like it. You will never say 'darn it i had so much heart today', heart is when you dig in with your nails and stick in there even when you are getting a pitiful beatdown, heart is when all you can do is keep your hands up, heart is when you keep stumbling forward even though you are shitting your pants and keep getting tagged; when you keep going even though you feel like a failure and your conscious mind has pretty much given up. And if every day you keep crawling back with your will to improve still intact, thats all the heart you'll ever need, ever. All done now.
Agree with everything BB said. It's a sport, you expected to be that good in 3 months? Why beat yourself up and be so down about yourself after a little setback? You have way too much ego and emotion invested in it, it's not that serious. It's just boxing, keep practicing and you'll get better. Forget about heart, this isn't a ****ing Rocky movie.
