Yep today is the day Jack Dempsey defeated Carpentier, and made a million at the gate. It is consider a historic landmark in boxing history. Dempsey would go on and make a million vs Firpo, Tunney 2 times and Sharkey in a non title affair. Looking back, I find it amazing that Dempsey was the only guy to draw a million at a event. Babe Ruth could not do that in baseball.
It's nice that you remembered. When I got up this morning I had to meet someone for breakfast and I wore a shirt from the 85th anniversary of that bout. We celebrated the event in 1996 and again in 2006. I was the guest speaker at both events. A couple of weeks ago, the son a Sugar Ray Robinson, came to a Ring 8 meeting, with a lady from Jersey City. When they got their, the lady asked Ray if I was their. Ray, said I was and both of them came up to me and she stated that she was at the celebration back in 2006 and told me that she learned a lot from what I talked about and always wanted to tell me that. Ray Jr., didn't look that good and I asked the lady about it and she told me that he has MS. I then told her that my daughter also has that. I talked to both of them for about 10 to 15 minutes.

No, we had pictures of the event and I gave a 15-20 minute presentation on the events leading up to the fight, who attended, the fight itself, etc. The famed high school basketball coach Bob Hurley attended and he was very impressed. I answered many questions from the people that attended after the speech.

Yeah I have the hour run footage also. I was lucky to run across it 3 or so years back in a trade. It mostly happen in my search for a more copy copy of Dempsey 1. Got 8 rounds of the first fight and in the process nab the hour long footage.
