His achievements are definitely being overlooked by some. Moving up 25 lbs and becoming the #1 at that weight is no small feat. Just look at how many active boxers have done that...very few. Still though, there are many dangerous fighters left at Cruiserweight for Adamek to face: Braithwaite, Flores, Jones, Mormeck, Kolodziej, Alexeev, Maccarinelli, Banks, Brudov, these would all be great fights. Of course there is also Cunningham II, and the proposed Dawson rematch. A win in any of those fights and you could have a solid case for a HOF career. But like Cruiser1 said, with Adamek's warrior fighting style, time is not on his side. Let's see what he can do in the next 2 years in the bigger men's division.
Add Wlod to that list as well. :good Ring magazine has him in their top 5 at 200 lbs, but I actually think that the 6'5" Pavel Kolodziej would be a tougher opponent for Adamek in an all-Polish clash.
I don't like Wlodarczyk but I can't agree with you about Kolodziej. He looked absolutely terrible in his last fight, Wlodarczyk would beat him easily right now. Adamek-Wlodarczyk actually makes sense, though Adamek should handle him without many problems.
Adamek needs to rematch Cunningham for me to truly respect him as a champion. I like the guy, but boxing needs rematches. This fight deserves a rematch. If I only saw one fight wins, and the guy who just won the champion just moved on...we would never see great rematches. Adamek can fight in his backyard since he's earned the right, but in that division, who else is there that he can fight. Adamek's fans saw the close call towards the end of the fight as Steve was slowly breaking . Prove to us that you are truly better than the champ because this fight was close and exciting. To be a h.o.f fighter you have to beat more than a Bell and Cunningham. You have to do rematches.
Just because his fights usually are exciting to watch doesn´t make him hall of fame material. He is a decent boxer without a doubt but wait till he has to fight Alexeev. Then you´ll see the difference between a good fighter and an exceptional one.
You should respect him anyways. Boxing needs more guys like Adamek. Lots of fighters. Axe just named a few. #17 Your basing the whole cruiser weight division off of one fight, just like most ESB posters. You also seem to belive that the division is nothing but just Cunningham and Adamek. Which it surly isn't. If beating the champion in a very fair descision, none the less in the USA, also knocking him down in the process doesn't proove he was better, than I dont know what does.
Why even worry about it... All he has beaten is Briggs (contender), Bell and Cunningham. No one there who is outstanding, or anything more than a sub standard world champion, who thrived on a weak division. Adamek will never be a HOF, he needs to be QUALITY opponents to get there, something the cruiserweight division simply doesn't possess at this stage. If Adamek was still at Light Heavy, i would pick Calzaghe, Dawson, Hopkins and even Kessler to be able to beat him. He is a tough, exciting fighter, but lets not get carried away here.
The cruiserweight division is weak as ****, and has been for a long time. The fact that fighters like Braithewait and Guillermero Jones (spelling) were considered among the best in the division is definitely proof of that. These guys are really only journeyman, who have succeeded due to the immense lack of talent in the division. Looking at it p4p, even the lacklustre heavyweight division has far more talent. Guys like Povetkin, Chambers, both Klits, Chageav have far better skill sets than any of the guys at Cruiser. Adamek coming up from light heavy where he couldn't cut it, and being a force at cruiser says more about the sorry state of the cruiserweight division than anything else.
