Taking the word of Emanuel Steward ... you believe that get his legs rubbed was the reason he got knocked out against Hagler? Come one now ... this guy had endurance issues and when he lost he was out of gas. He didn't know how to tie up when he was in trouble and due to his lack of defense ... guys teed off on his chin.
Actually no, Hearns started boxing beautifully in that fight. He was actually more of the "boxer" then Sugar Ray was. And before you try, this point isn't really debatable. You should just know it :good
power and length? so he also was'nt known for being a master boxer? for being an underrated body puncher? hearns would have KO'd him insde 5. watch how de la hoya was breaking floyd's rythm and having success, when he employed the jab. hearns jab is easily one of the top 5 jabs ever put to use in the sport, and was 10x better than hoya's. so what if he has a better center of gravity or lower to the ground? how does that benefit him against a guy known for being a master range fighter? hearns feasted on fighter like that. the bigger/stronger hearns would easily cut him off, pressure him to the ropes and over power him. even if he decided to go inside hearns would just tie him up, and over power him in clinches. oh he'd just walk over and throw a punch to hearns's body? that simple huh? how many have tried that and failed. you dont think about lunging in against a guy with a longer reach, hands as fast (if not faster), legit one punch KO power, a complete arsenal of punches and a master boxer at that. joy would have to be willing to walk through the valley of the shadow of death to do what you outlined. who said anythng about hearns needing to get close? his best work was always on the outside. pbf cant beat him on the outside. sure floyd has fought a couple of tall boxer/puncher types, but nothing in the vicinity of hearns, not even in the same planet. this is'nt n'dou or corrales were talking about. hearns would have KO'ed him inside 5.
if you took the time to learn, your first trip should be to look up the fist group of kronk fighters. every one of them were great technicians. tommy being the cream of the crop. tommy and straight forward do not belong in the sae sentence. find hearns amateur record an then say that he was only a power puncher. wake up
What has Hagler got to do with this? Marv would take Floyd's head off, thats hardly the point. There is no disgrace in getting caught by Hagler. In light of the Floyd fight it has no relevance whatsoever.
The thing is ... you categorize me for explaining myself and not just jumping to conclusions. you automatically say that Hearns would win without even giving it any thought. I know boxing ... I know boxing very well ... its you that don't know **** about boxing. You can't even explain yourself from a boxing stand point ... all you say is that Hearns was strong ... so what ... strength is not even a factor when it comes to fighting a boxer. If that was the case then we would have more power punchers undefeated throughout history. Yeah he might have been entertaining to watch ... and gave all fans some classical moments - but logically speaking ... this guy had endurance issues ... this guy had stamina issues ... this guy took alot of punches ... this guy had no defense ... he was very tall for a WW giving away his body to alot of punishment. I've seen this guy fight before and i'm not going to rule him the victor because of who he fought. That **** gets thrown out the window once you and your opponent step into that ring. Check out the entagables ... check out things other than physical attributes. If it was all about physicality then Foreman wouldve beaten Ali ... Tyson wouldve beaten Lewis ... Klitschko wouldve beaten Lewis and Hearns wouldve finished his career undefeated.
tommy's chin is suspect? i have never agreed with this. exhaustion got him against srl, and there is no shame in getting stretched by 2 heavy punching mw. but to imply that pbf could do the same is a joke.
no one prf has ever fought punches anywhere near as hard as hearns did. Plus Hearns beat great competition at WW, not even Floyd can say he has. is Floyd going to stake his ATG status at WW on Zab Judah, Baldomir and two greats who weren't even at their proper weight class? Theres no doubt that PBF is nasty and an insane boxer but he is too small to beat Hearns. Hearns destroyed people when he hit them. Can you remember anyone cutting Hagler the way he did? And that was in the fight he lost!
I never said that Floyd would knock Hearns out ... I said that he would win by UD. Floyd can go 15 rounds ... Pot shot or not ... he's scoring and he's avoiding getting hit at the same time ... thats boxing ... the first rule is "protect yourself at all times" ... Hearns didn't do himself justice by getting hit alot ... and don't say he didn't because he did ... even in victory. Like I said before ... one thing that you can't do against PBF is get tired ... and at the moment that Hearns showed fatigue ... thats when Floyd would take that to his advantage ... continue to potshot and get the UD.
It'd e a lot harder to potshot against Hearns than it would be against other fighters because Hearns was so much bigger and could fight a lot more physically. To say that Hearns would beat PBF is not to take away anything from PBF its jsut to admit that somebody in history could have beaten him.
