Tommy Morrison vs Corrie Sanders

I appreciate you admit your bias, it takes humility to do that.

Here's the thing..Foreman also got outboxed by Jimmy Young who was a poor man's Wlad Klitschko. It is kind of ignorant to bring up those earlier losses because Wlad is clearly a much better fighter now then he was back then. He improved tremendously under the tutelage of Steward who went as far to say that Wlad was his best fighter ever(this coming from a guy who produced 41 world champions).Wlad has many advantages over Foreman. Anyways cheers and I look forward to that poll.

 

Naw, I just don't see that playing out and I am the biggest Foreman fan. Wlad has all the tools to exploit Foreman's weaknesses. I see Wlad out boxing and outpointing a 1973-1977 Foreman just like Young did but better. Foreman also relyed heavily on being the bigger,stronger man in the ring, an advantage he wouldn't have against Wlad. A guy like Wlad is a stylistic and physical nightmare matchup for Foreman. Foreman's only hope is if he catches Wlad cold early in the fight before he tires. If he doesn't do that I see Wlad getting in a comfort rhythm of staying out of hitting range on the outside jab,jab,jab, right straight,clinch rinse and repeat to a decision or even a late stoppage if Foreman becomes too exhausted to keep his hands up.

 

When you look at these two side by side and on paper, one would naturally lean towards Tommy. Corrie looks like a fast food manager and Tommy looks like the All American athlete. But Sanders was freakishly fast with his hands and had serious pop in his punches.

This is a toss up for me. I see Tommy having trouble with Corrie being a southpaw and his wicked straight left. Remember Vaulin? I also see Tommy being able to weather the early storm and get off his ass a couple of times to come back and land his bombs. Power SLIGHTLY goes to The Duke with hand speed going to Sanders. Skills and stamina are in the same ballpark. Chin slightly to Corrie.

Back and forth fight. Toss up

 

This would have been an awesome scrap..... Could see it going either way really.

 

Unfortunately I haven't seen much of Morrison, but looking at his pictures he looks like a beast, everything you would imagine a heavyweight champion to be. All I can say on Sanders vs Morrison is this: their main opponent in common was Ross Puritty. If Morrison only managed to draw with him, then (unless Morrison was sick or something) Sanders ought to be able to comfortably beat Morrison. Corrie dominated Purrity, and Ross had difficulty in laying a glove on him. Sanders gave Ross a boxing lesson, and he was still quite fresh in the 12th round, despite what people may say about Corrie's stamina. That said, if Sanders elected to slug it out with Tommy in this hypothetical match up instead of sticking and moving, Tommy's chances would go up.

Sanders would have KO'ed him early ... Tommy did not have a good chin and the way Sanders hit, no good for him ..

Great analysis in my opinion. I would give Sanders the slight edge in this one. What a wild match up this would be.

 

Yeah this fight would be even more fireworks than the Rahman fight imo. It would be just a matter of time before all hell breaks loose in this one. Lol

 

Great matchup! Both can take can each other out, but I have a gut feeling that Corrie stops Morrison early.

 

Tommy looked clueless against a southpaw. Sanders, or Moorer, take him out early.

As Don King noted, Sanders was the real white heavyweight prospect of the 90's, not Morrison. Just a big gap in talent between the two.
