I said Toney was gonna weigh in at 221lbs. He looks between 225 and 230 lbs in that recent sparring session, I still think he will weigh in between 220 and 225 lbs. But in the end a couple pounds more or less won't matter much, Toney looks in shape and fast in that sparring session, he will be in the best shape he can be at for this fight, and there's not gonna be any excuses.
That's what I always here. I heard Roach once say that Toney can come into the gym out of shape and completely outclass heavyweights. Even notable ones like Francios Botha, and this was back when he was fighting at cruiserweight.... but like you said, that's the gym. On fight night with more formidable fighters it's a different story.
You do indeed hear the same stuff before every Toney fight, but i respect Doug Fischer's opinion and he's been in Toney's camp before every one of his fights in recent years, so when he says Toney hasn't looked this good and sharp in 4 or 5 years, i'm taking his word for it.
James Toney is as relaxed in the ring as any fighter could possibly be, so he's pretty much able to do the same in a fight that he does in sparring.
Ditto. This will go all 12, no knockdowns, and we will see Toney take an SD, with scores of 116-112 Toney, 115-114 Rahman, and 116-112, for the winner, and NEW NABO HW Champion, Mr. Lights OUT TONEY!!!!:happy :happy :happy
Sometimes even experienced trainers and journos get a little too attached...I'm sure I'm not the only one remembering Ronnie Shields confidently stating pre-Ibragimov that Holyfield "was fighting the best he has for a decade." As soon as Sultan employed the stick and move, it looked instead much like the frustrated Holyfield of the Byrd and Donald fights. Having said that, of course I'd like Fischer to be right...I want someone to come out of this fight looking good, because they're still two of the more interesting personalities around at the moment.
only thing that would make this fight interestin is if either guy goes for and scores a ko or tko win... otherwise :dead
For reference, the weights for their last 5 fights : TONEY 235 vs Dominick Guinn 237 vs Hasim Rahman I 233 vs Sam Peter I 234 vs Sam Peter II 229 vs Batchelder RAHMAN 235 vs Oleg Maskaev II 261 vs Taurus Sykes 250 vs Dicky Ryan 240 vs Cerrone Fox 243 vs Zuri Lawrence
Toney is lighter than usual, but he is also older and been inactive for a year. Hmm, interesting pick'em fight!
