The problem I have is Hughie is a VERY good heavyweight, his footwork and jab are excellent and his defence is second to none. He may well beat AJ, he could well school him if he can take the punches and has a chin. But could the British public get behind him with that style? Tyson Fury has the talk the brashness and has been in exciting fights, Mcdermott, Cunningham, (what's the Canadian fighter who knocked him down) and the first Chisora fight. Hughie like some say is too relaxed for his own good, and when he's up against someone with more power - i.e someone along the lines of Mansour, Ustinov, etc he needs to show he's willing to push opponents back - if need be. Someone like Luis Ortiz would kill him at this stage. He just needs more bite and spite to show yes I'm a great boxer, but I can bang if need be too.
Hughie is boring to watch. There I said it. All flailing limbs and awkward movements, he has the same jarring effect on my retinas that Vitali once had. It's 'unorthodox', but must everyone pretend that effective = entertaining? No.. Bore off. Tyson gets away with it because he has character, but the fury style is my idea of a snooze fest.
It's not just Hughie's fault, it's a pretty unexciting division. Takes 2 fighters in the ring to make it a boring fight. It's up to the challenger to bring something to the table and push Hughie out of his comfort zone. Fact is, nobody has yet. Same with AJ. Sorry but I've found nearly all his fights boring too. Just ****py mismatches. Hughie won't want to face AJ just yet but neither would AJ.
In fairness to Joshua he is explosive and is exciting to watch. He throws punches in combination and lets his hands go. Whilst with Hughie Fury it's a case of pitter patter jabs and flailing arms but world class footwork, whilst not really being very competitive. It really is drab to watch him in action, you know the most excitement you'll see is when Tyson Fury comes in the ring at the end. It's testament to him he's never really been caught with decent shots as his defence is world class, but his offence is bang average, it really is. So he's a conundrum, a world class defensive heavyweight that lacks the marketability of his cousin. He'll outpoint a fair few opponents and may win a world title, but boy he won't be selling out arenas and earning PPV status, like Joshua/T Fury have.
I just saw Conlan vs Nelson in replay. Respect to Frank ****** for making this match-up. Probably the best Domestic fight this year. I wasn't the biggest fan of Conlan, but last night he showed he is a true fighter. Nelson dragged him into a war and he he came out on top with a cracking bodyshot. He won't make it to the top though.
