I wonder why, when Tony Ayala Jr. turned professional in 1980,

That Shelley Finkel and Lou Duva just didn't mortgage everything to get
Pipino Cuevas in the ring with this supposed beast.

Or possibly, getting a second sparring session in San Antonio.

    Antonio Leyva, a Mexican Welterweight sparred with a 17 1/2 year-old
Tony Ayala Jr. in 1980, while prepping him for his 2nd Pro bout.

Response, 'He's a good prospect, but he has a long way to go.'

The ESB Classic section is the only place in the world of internet boxing forums where Tony Ayala is a recurring topic on a daily basis.

    Public courthouses beg to differ.

I always thought the story was bull****, no way would any 14 year old be put in the ring with a world champion who happened to be one of the hardest punchers at the lower weights ever, and notoriously hard on sparring partners and beat him so badly, no way, no how.

    Brother, Sammy Ayala

Who turned professional in July 1977, about the same time this supposed
sparring session took place, has never mentioned seeing Pipino Cuevas
    spar with his brother Tony.

Sammy, who did fight Pipino Cuevas 'sparring-mate' Jose Luis Baltazar
in December 1978 in San Antonio -

Sammy said, that several fighters who sparred with Pipino Cuevas - did at
one time or another, venture into the San Fernando Gym in San Antonio.

Doesn't matter if it sounds believable or not. I never believed it either. That's not the issue.

You quote Tony Ayala himself saying it never happened. Please provide a link to the quote so it can be authenticated. If you don't have a link and can't tell us where the quote came from, well, you report and we'll decide.

Not just a link for Tony but also the quote from Cuevas, as well as the two Texas newspapers you mentioned that researched the event and debunked it.

You can give yourself a lot of credibility, do a lot of damage control, and shut a lot of people up easily by posting the information we ask for which you pretend to have.

If you wont, then you cant, and doesnt exist, which means you have once again been caught fabricating sources to suit your agenda.

While articles were written about this supposed 'sparring session',

When Tony Ayala Jr. fought Mario Maldonado on National Television.

There was a pre-fight interview with Tony Ayala Sr., Tony Ayala Jr. and Lou Duva -
and there was not one mention of a sparring session with Pipino Cuevas.

And the TV Fight Announcers, Barry Tompkins and Marvin Hagler never mentioned
this supposed session that 'legends were made from'.

Such a highly touted sparring session, not even mentioned on his National TV debut.

So... you did make up the quotes you posted by Ayala, Cuevas, and the two Dallas newspapers. Thats what I thought. Anyone who wants to believe this guys garbage needs to form a boxing fiction section and post there. Leave the boxing history forum to people actually interested in boxing history.

    Pipino Cuevas,

    Pre-fight training schedule, usually a 6-week session.

3-weeks in Mexico, and 3-weeks at the fight venue location.

Pipino Cuevas 'main' sparring partner was stable-mate Jose Palacios.

Not one Texas Newspaper ever reported a Pipino Cuevas and Tony Ayala Jr.
    sparring session.

I'm wondering what's going on now. Is there a link that quotes Ayala as saying he never sparred with Cuevas or not? If not, where did your leading post come from?

something like this shouldn't have been believed in the first place to be honest.

if a claim is made that ayala beat up cuevas then that has to be proved. no one has to prove it did not happen.

anyone can make any claim about anything and the onus should be on them to back it up, not the other way round.
