Yes! Watch his fight with Berg (KO3) and stop the video everytime you think Berg landed on him. Most of the time Berg actually missed by a hair. Just awesome.
You know what I would say im very nice to some of the old time fighters, Ive seen Canzoneri many times and his resume is very impressive. However if we sat down in person and watched footage of Chavez and Canzoneri, and you told me that Canzoneri was still the better fighter, i would think you are ******ed. PS the only reason i said Canzoneri would give him a tough fight was because i was considering how great they were for there time, but if you disregard the resume and realize the technique defiencies of certain old timers.......... You should know that Chavez would have CREAMED him big time.
Canzoneri was the better fighter. Calling me names won´t change that. :-( Canzoneri would do very well today. Probably fight at Junior Bantam or something like that, boiling down. But he would dominate and very possibly exceed Pac and Mayweather as p4p number one.
in a three fight series i think canzoneri may well win one fight but this is a very close fight series and you could make a reasoning for either fighter coming out on top my main worry for canzoneri is that he would not stick to boxing and would to easily get drawn into a war with chavez, now berg has been mentioned here so yes canzoneri ko'd berg and then out pointed him ,but in the first fight berg got canzoneri into a toe to toe fight and berg won the decision and in at least one news paper it was described as the worst beating canzoneri had taken in his career to date.and at least one witnessed stated that canzoneri had to be carried back to his corner when the bell rang to end the fight.canzoneri could bang but say what you want about chavez but his chin was an A+ so i cant see canzoneri hurting him so i edge towards chavez here with canzoneri getting drawn into a war .chavez 2-1
WTF are you talking about? atsch I was just gonna congratulate him for saying almost the same thing i did "as far as how the fight would go" .
I think Chavez would win. But ricardo and anarci get out of here with that poop...you are wearing the Chicano tinted glasses for this one Canzoneri would be competitive...highly competitive, probably take a fight in a series. Saying he gets creamed and crushed is laughable. You cant just straight up compare technical ability in the way you guys are...For a start Canzoneri fought in an era where they wore 5 ounce gloves of inferior quality and padding. Fighting in the manner Julio did wouldnt have work as well because blocking punches was fairly useless a lot of the time. Thats why he has that unique style where he uses his upperbody more and has his hands low, giving him greater ability to counter, protect body and swat away shots. I could go on more but the main point is they are coming from different eras, different rules, different styles. Both were among the very best and most proven fighters of their respective eras..on that fact alone its not going to be one way traffic either way.
See those highlights thats what i said!! Any ways whatever i dont need anybody to confirm my expertise:nono Although i do agree with some of his other opinions. He stated what i said in so many words he would fall back and forth into slugging and boxing, and neither would work for that long. Come on Bodhi you sound somewhat educated, im sure you can see the similarities in what we both said. You just dont like my opinions cause i always prove you wrong
You know what rock you are one of my favs here but you comparisons about the gloves and all that bull**** are laughableatsch The sport has evolved and no one wants to admit this. Bottom line Canzoneris style didnt have much to do with that, the art of defense should have been better. . ;...........Hey Rock you ever seen Benny Leonard??? Pretty slick guy wouldnt you say? Believe me i know that Julio got a lot of punches on his gloves but he would have easily slid these guys shots:yep Yey as far his making excuses for his style sounds like my buddy Chuey down the street saying that my homeboy Boxer would be Middleweight champ with a year of trainng.:--( Get with it Rockatsch Oh yeah by the way i dont have my Chicano sunglasses on i call it how i see it, if i didnt id be hootin and hollering why Vargas should be a first ballot HOF. Any ways Chavez is a Mexican National and half them ****ers dont like us Chicanos anyways
Its cool say what you will but Chavez if you watch him a super feather and lightweight you see that he was more mobile and had an incredible defense. Chavez fought 100+ times in a modern era in which athletes are better conditioned. I love the old timers but few of them would actually dominate today. You have to consider that the color line kept out some of the better fighters of Tony's day. You say I am looking at it through Chicano glasses... Canzonzeri fought in an era dominate by white fighters...what kind of glasses in Bohdi using White revisionist Glasses? We all know that the NBA, MLB, and the NFl improved once the color line faded how can you say Tony was the man when colored fighters were kept away from title matches.
Bohdi...by your analysis the greatest Mexican fighter ever would be Rodolfo Casanova.. beat Young Tommy, Newsboy Brown, Henry Armstrong btw he practically killed both Miller and Young in the ring plus he beat Kid Azteca though he was outweighed by 15 lbs.... how come you have no comeback on the color line? because you know its true
