He was dangerous mainly because he didn't give a toss about the rules. I doubt he'd still have his licence today, or be fighting on some unregulated bum circuit.
Didn't Galento win the fight with Nova by repeatedly kneeing him in the ***** or somesuch? I'd love to have seen him and Andrew Golota going at it. I mean Golota awould have beaten him with his skills, size and athleticism alone, but it would've been funny trying to see Galento attempt to outhustle the foul pole. I think even Golota would've been impressed.
In a foul fest, Galento would be at an advantage against Golota. The foul Pole wouldn't be able to use his trademark low blows without bending down thereby telegraphing them. Galento had greater variety.
Yeah Galento had no skill or boxing ability. He just slipped, and his fist happened to drop one of the two best HW boxers in history.
Especially in the heavyweight division, the combination of chin, punch and the willingness to take what is coming to land that punch will always be dangerous. Tony had faith in his power and knew to his core that he could win if he could get in range. I will always give him that.
That also reinforces he would be no less than rank 3 today. Think of Butter Bean 2.0 with skill and a lightning left hook? Who would possibly stop him besides Joshua who is only good BC of his size, basically a 250 pound robot who trains for body building contests. Imagine Galento getting hold of Joshua in the street?
