Jesus, I just looked up the great Mike White. I didn't realize he met such a tragic end. Funny guy and a real spoiler. And a giant. And one of the greatest White fighters ever.

Wladimir Klitschko has been an elite heavyweight for 10 years, the number 1 heavyweight for 5 years, completely dominates top 5/top 10 heavyweights routinely, olympic gold medallist and all without having the chin of an elite fighter. How can he not even make many people's top 10 white heavyweights??? Come on guys :verysad

I am guessing that it is because he doesnt have the chin of an elite fighter!

    1. James Jeffries - Never lost a fight in his prime and beat the best coloured and white fighters after retiring as undefeated world champion. Was a clear dominant fighter. Many still say that under his own rules he is the greatest fighter of all times.

2 Rocky Marciano - As above. The only criticism is a shorter career and some ordinary physical stats. But, you can do nothing more than beat the very best and Rocky did. An early retirement and failure to come back was actually the right thing and he should be praised not criticised for the shorter career than some.

    3. John L Sullivan - Not only was he unbeaten in his prime, but he knocked out most of them in 4 rounds. The quality of era is criticised today, but that could be because of lack of information for all we know. He pretty much did what he could in his prime, and while there were some challengers avoided late in his career, he was a shot fighter by this time, so it is of no relevance.

    4. Jack Dempsey - The biggest box office attraction ever when he came to prominence, he had a knockout punch that was second to no one. It is hard to rate Jack, because his best work isnt on film, and he has those possible dodgy decisions (Flynn and Meehan) early in his career. But nearly everyone who saw him, rated him as high as anyone, even Joe Louis. They cant all be wrong, can they?

    5. Wladimir Klitchsko - I am going to stick Wlad in here. But, his career can and will change a lot before his career finishes. I am assuming all the question marks in his favour to put him here. A poor finish to his career (and age will usually do this) will change his ranking.

    6. Gene Tunney - He beat every single fighter he ever faced. While he only fought a few heavyweight fighters, he won them all. And his performance against Dempsey who while past prime, was still the equivalent or better than, say, a post prison Tyson, in relation to his prime. And he had KOd no 1 contender Jack Sharkey. Like Marciano, he knew when to quit and did so at the right time.

    7. Bob Fitzsimmons - Fitzy was a lot better as a heavyweight than many people realise. He beat as many heavyweights as anyone, and he finished cracked their iron chins on a regular basis. ONly the all time great (possibly greatest) chin of Jeffries proved undentable, and even thenit was only barely and it was a past prime Fitzsimmons. Most will laugh at his top 10 selection, but he is a lot better than people realise, despite his size.

    8. Vitali Klitchsko - Vitali has an ordinary resume, and he failed his biggest challenge in Lewis, but he would give anyone a decent fight. And he has beat most of the best (excluding his brother) of his time. Physically, he matches up to any heavyweight that ever lived, and his reach and power would create problems for anyone.

    9. Jim Corbett - Corbett could outbox anyone. In his prime, no one outboxed him. His KO losses that seem to hurt his all time ranking but they did come after his prime and after he had appeared to outbox his opponents, in the most part. He was a very good fighter.

    10. Max Schmelling - This is a real tough one. Baer, Sharkey, were great fighters but inconsistent at times. Willard, Carnera have the physical tools but suffered some big losses. Morrison, Cooney, Quarry just didnt make it to the top and dont really rank at this level. In the end, i went with Quarry, because he has a good record, and his greatest victory is a win over probably the best fighter who has ever lost a decision (only possible arguments would be Ali from FOC or Foreman from the Rumble).

Bob Ftizsimmons regularly dominated (and he KOd most of them) top 5 heavyweights of his time, for a lot more than 5 years and i doubt you would criticise people the same way for leaving him out of a top 10 list. Wlad is a large unknown. I put him in mine, but to be honest, he is impossible to list one way or the other at the moment.

Wait a minute here, Ali was half Irish, so I think that makes him part white and Joe Louis had Cherokee blood also and was light-skinned- you got to take it both ways....As far as Italians, well they were Romans and they planted themselves in Britan for 500 years so if they have tainted blood, then so do the Brits :scaredas: a big happy melting pot

So Mesi and Povetkin are in on achievements?????

Joe Bugner losing to Ali, Frazier, Shavers and Lyle is a bigger achievement than anything they have done
