Absolutley. And Ali's jaw against Liston can't be taken into consideration. Simply because Liston never hit him flush or with anything significant, which ties in with what you mentioned above. People are quick to forget that. McCullough on the otherhand constantly came forward during all his fights. He didn't mind taking punches to get home with his own. His chin was tested during every fight more or less, unlike Ali's. A strong arguement can be made by anyone for another fighter to have a better chin than McCullough only based on longevity and not being stopped over 150 fights or whatever.
Ali didnt have a jaw of legendary proportions..your drunk or something? you esb ***s pay to much attention detail n miss basic key points..Look at all the great punchers he faced.Who knocked him out? i guess the norton fight proves his chin wasnt of "legendary proportions".
Liston,Foreman,Frazier, shavers. You know since those guys didnt even lay a glove on Alis chin.. Get outta here
I don't think you realise that there are many different factors to a knockout other than pure punch resistance.
Chuvalo was easier to cut. That's like questioning Napoles' chin because of the Backus fight. George was never saved by the bell like Ali had been.
I don't think he landed great head shots and Liston barely landed anything that resembled a 'power shot'.
Ill leave this thread alone..I put ali on my list based off of the success he had against the greatest punchers an opposition of any heavy ever.By far. I dont say anything on his record that says ko.in his prime..That stands for a lot.He had top 10 chin p4p all time
Because Cobb was **** besides his chin..Nothing but punch resistance..Chuvalo was far more skilled.Texx just took poundings. it was his bread n butter an had a good bit of success for a fighter with club level skills
Understand something - 'chin' is how well you cope when tagged raw by a powerful shot. Other factors contribute to how well you can survive in a fight, such as cut resistance, reflexes, defensive techniques and smarts (ability to clinch, when to take a knee etc.). Ali's base level of durability upstairs was very good as he could catch shots from big hitters without going down, however he was stunned or downed on multiple occasions and wasn't actually as tested as you might think; when do you remember Ali being hit by a combination? See, that's where the reflexes and defence comes into it. 'Legendary' is Marvin Hagler, Jake LaMotta, Oliver McCall and so on.
